Reuben Jansen van Rensburg Invited to Official Strongman Games: A Natural Champion's Call to Represent South Africa Clean and Strong
Cape Town, South Africa: 10 August 2025: In a sport where sheer power at all cost often overshadows sensible strategy, one young South African stands as a beacon of authentic achievement. Reuben Jansen van Rensburg, the 22 year old force who seized both South Africa's and Africa's Strongest Man titles in the under-80kg division in 2024, has earned his much sought-after invitation to the Official Strongman Games in Arlington, Texas, from 20 to 23 November this year. This prestigious untested event gathers the world's top strongmen for four days of gruelling tests, from deadlifts to yoke carries and Reuben's spot marks a pivotal moment for clean athletics in a landscape dominated by doping and heavyweight narratives.
Reuben's journey to this invitation is one of unswerving resolve. Beginning in his backyard with homemade sandbags as a teenager, he honed a versatile skill set blending karate, gymnastics, ballet, boxing, wrestling, mixed martial arts, strength training and conditioning. His triumphs were built on a string of successes in 2023: bronze at the Arnold Classic, gold at Southern Cape and Western Cape Strongest Man and silver at South Africa Strongest Man. In 2024 he continued with bronze at the African Strongman Union Log & Deadlift Championships and 10th place at the tested Natural Strongman Worlds in Galway, Ireland. Finally, at the South Africa and Africa's Strongest Man competitions in November 2024, Reuben dominated with 110kg Apollon's Axle reps pressed three times, a 260kg max deadlift, the fastest 270kg yoke carry, a 50.11-second sandbag and keg medley (100kg sandbag, 110kg keg, 120kg sandbag), a 10.66-second farmer's walk with 110kg per hand and a 125kg Atlas stone load. These feats at 80kg body weight underscores his pound-for-pound prowess.
What sets Reuben apart is his staunch commitment to natural athleticism. He rejects steroids outright, viewing them as a betrayal of sport's core principles. "The point of competitive sports is to test who worked the hardest, who has the most skill and who has the best genetics," Reuben asserts. "Steroids test none of these and they allow someone who isn't the best at any of these to win." His stance echoes experts like Charles Yesalis, professor emeritus at Penn State University, who warns, "Steroid use has often been blamed in the premature deaths of strongman competitors." Reuben adds, "When you take the drugs you get stronger. When you stop you get weaker again. That doesn't sound like much of an achievement." This echoes concerns from the Mayo Clinic, which states that anabolic steroids can lead to heart attacks, strokes, liver disease and aggressive behaviour. In a field where doping scandals loom large, Reuben's clean record and achievements prove that excellence thrives without shortcuts.
As South Africa celebrates recent heavyweight triumphs like Rayno Nel's 2025 World's Strongest Man victory, Reuben's under-80kg dominance offers a fresh perspective on strength without steroids. His invitation to the Official Strongman Games arrives at a time when the sport craves voices like his to champion fair play. Reuben is ready to step into the spotlight not only as a competitor but as an educator urging young athletes to embrace natural paths. "Steroids are a crutch," he says. "Even at the highest level they allow laziness over skill development."
Organisations and individuals eager to champion clean sport are invited to engage Reuben for motivational speaking events where he shares strategies for success through discipline and integrity. His talks equip audiences with tools to foster resilience while highlighting doping's risks such as cardiovascular damage, hormonal imbalances and psychological effects. Media outlets are encouraged to interview Reuben for insights that challenge doping norms and motivate the next generation to pursue natural excellence.
