Wellness is More than Mindfulness and Joy - The Dimensions Nobody Talks About

CAPE TOWN, 25 May 2026 - On Global Wellness Day (Saturday, 13 June), millions of people around the world will be encouraged to practise mindfulness and be joyful about simple blessings.

These are worthwhile habits but they are also only a fraction of what real, whole-person wellness actually requires, and Cape Town-based Mentor Sinta Ebersohn wants to start a bigger conversation.

"Wellness has been reduced to a physical and mental health conversation," says Ebersohn, award-winning founder of Get Up and Grow and Fair Divorce and, holder of 10 internationally accredited professional designations.

"The reality is that a person can be physically healthy, engaging in mindful activities and still be falling apart in their family relationships, their sense of purpose, their financial stability or their spiritual grounding.

Wellness that addresses two or three dimensions of a person's life while ignoring the other six is incomplete wellness.

It may even be a distraction from the work that actually matters."

The Nine Dimensions of True Resilience and Wellness

Ebersohn's proprietary Resilience Puzzle framework identifies nine interconnected dimensions of human wellbeing that must all be consciously cultivated for a person to be fully resilient and well.

These are:

Emotional

Self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience and the ability to increase capacity.

Physical

An active lifestyle, healthy nutrition, adequate sleep and being safe & secure in your own body.

Mental

Lifelong learning, mastering new skills, curiosity and the willingness to challenge existing beliefs.

Spiritual

Living according to personal values, connection with nature, faith & rituals and cultural identity.

Social

Meaningful relationships with family and friends, community involvement, volunteering and authentic connection.

Financial

Meeting basic needs, budgeting, saving and preparing for emergencies.

Vocational

A sense of purpose, clear goals, personal growth and the pursuit of meaningful success.

Environmental

A safe, orderly, sustainable and beautiful living and working space.

Family

A sense of belonging, a healthy hierarchy, being acknowledged and clarity on your role within the family system.

"Most wellness programmes in corporate environments, most lifestyle media and most public health campaigns address two or three of these dimensions at most," Ebersohn notes.

"The others are treated as personal problems rather than legitimate dimensions of wellness that deserve attention, resources and honest conversation.

The result is that people do everything they are told to do and still do not feel well, because the dimensions that are most disrupted in their lives are the ones nobody is talking about."

The Role of Trauma in Disrupting Wellness Across All Dimensions

Ebersohn, winner of the 2024 African Excellence Award for Best Employee Wellness Programme, and short-listed for the 2026 African Excellence Award for Best Personal Development, holds ten internationally accredited designations so she brings both professional expertise and lived experience to this conversation.

"Trauma does not only disrupt emotional and mental wellness," she explains.

"It disrupts every single dimension of the Resilience Puzzle.

It shapes financial behaviour, family dynamics, vocational choices, the capacity for authentic social connection and the ability to feel at home in your own environment.

A wellness conversation that does not acknowledge the role of unresolved trauma in disrupting multiple dimensions of a person's life is missing the most important piece of the picture."

Her work through Get Up and Grow focuses on helping people identify which dimensions of their Resilience Puzzle are underdeveloped, understand why, and begin the specific, targeted work of consciously cultivating resilience across all nine areas.
