Cape Town, South Africa – The Jansen van Rensburg brothers from Kommetjie have made their mark on the international strongman stage, delivering jaw-dropping performances at the Africa’s Strongest Man and Woman 2024 competition this past weekend.

A Victory for Reuben and Timeon Jansen van Rensburg

Reuben Jansen van Rensburg (22) triumphed in the Under-80kg Pro-Am Division, claiming the coveted titles of South Africa’s Strongest Man and Africa’s Strongest Man. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Timeon Jansen van Rensburg (18), who holds the Junior Africa Log Press Record of 105kg, earned a stellar 2nd place in SA’s Strongest Man and 3rd place in Africa’s Strongest Man in the Under-90kg Novice Division.

Strong, Skilled and 100% Natural

The brothers are passionate advocates of clean sport, showcasing what can be achieved through dedication, discipline, and a doping-free approach to strength training. Their commitment to ethical competition is matched by the extraordinary physical and mental fortitude required in this challenging sport.

A Gruelling Test of Strength

The two-day competition featured intense events designed to push athletes to their limits, including:

  • Day 1: Apollon’s Axle Reps, Max Deadlift, and Farmer’s Walk.
  • Day 2: Sandbag and Keg Medley, Yoke Carry, and Atlas Stones.

Reuben’s Stellar Performance

Reuben demonstrated exceptional prowess in his events:

  • Apollon’s Axle Reps: 110kg pressed three times.
  • Max Deadlift: Lifted a jaw-dropping 260kg.
  • Farmer’s Walk: 110kg in each hand, completed in just 10.66 seconds.
  • Sandbag and Keg Medley: Finished a 100kg sandbag, 110kg keg, and 120kg sandbag in 50.11 seconds.
  • Yoke Carry: Dominated with a 270kg carry, achieving the fastest time.
  • Atlas Stones: Lifted and loaded a 125kg stone.

Timeon’s Remarkable Results

Timeon impressed the crowd with his incredible strength:

  • Apollon’s Axle Reps: 90kg pressed five times.
  • Max Deadlift: Lifted an impressive 220kg.
  • Farmer’s Walk: 110kg in each hand, completed in 11.22 seconds.
  • Sandbag and Keg Medley: Excelled with a 100kg sandbag and 110kg keg.
  • Yoke Carry: Completed a 240kg carry in 14.09 seconds.
  • Atlas Stones: Loaded a 110kg stone four times.

Looking Ahead to New Heights

Facing fierce competition, the brothers are already preparing for the 2025 Strongman season. After a brief week of rest, they will return to the gym to pursue new goals.

Despite their rigorous training schedules, Reuben balances his career as a Cyber Security Engineer in Cape Town, while Timeon prepares to study Theology at the University of Stellenbosch.

A Dream for the Future

Strongman training demands specialised and often expensive equipment, much of which the brothers have had to manufacture themselves or import. They dream of opening a dedicated Strongman gym with the help of sponsorships to support their journey.

Their passion for competitive sports began early, with both brothers achieving success as South African Goju Ryu Karate champions during their teenage years. Today, they channel that same determination into becoming world-class Strongmen.
