SA Powerlifting Champion Returns from Worlds with 13 Records

Urgent Appeal for Donations, Sponsorship, and Support
Pretoria, South Africa – Nicole Hasell, a talented and dedicated 23-year-old powerlifting athlete, is seeking urgent support to continue her journey to the top of the international powerlifting world. Since she began competing in 2022, Nicole has set several South African and African records and earned her place in prestigious international competitions, having qualified for four World Championships. However, due to the weak South African Rand and the high costs associated with travel, competition fees, and essential equipment, Nicole has been unable to seize every opportunity to compete on the world stage.
A 5th-year Veterinary Medicine student from Pretoria, Nicole recently returned from Malta, where she competed at the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Championships. She achieved an impressive 4th place in the deadlift and finished 6th overall in the Juniors U57kg division. She now proudly holds 3 South African records and an astonishing 10 African records.
Nicole's journey into powerlifting began after a successful career as a high-performance gymnast, later transitioning into weightlifting and CrossFit before discovering her true passion—Squat, Bench, and Deadlift. Her personal best total of 425kg in the gym and 400kg in competition demonstrates her incredible potential in this demanding sport.
However, time is running out. This is Nicole’s final year to compete as a Junior. From next year, she will be competing in the Opens division, where the competition is far more intense and the numbers significantly higher. Nicole is confident she can rise to the challenge, but she urgently needs the right equipment to train and compete at her best. The sport has two categories—Classic (no equipment) and Equipped (which requires specialised deadlift and squat suits, a bench shirt, shoes, a belt, wraps, and more). Fortunately, Nicole has invested in some of the basic equipment already but is in desperate need of a few more items and an upgrade of some others. Without the proper equipment, Nicole’s ability to continue competing at the highest level will be severely limited.
A Call for Immediate Support
The expenses associated with this sport are substantial, and without sponsorship, donations, or financial support, Nicole may miss her chance to participate in upcoming World Championships. She has already qualified but needs immediate assistance to cover both the cost of participation and the necessary equipment before 13 September, when entries close for the Commonwealth Games in October this year.
Immediate Needs:
- Estimated travel and participation expenses for the upcoming Commonwealth Games (October 6th & 11th): R10,000
- Estimated cost of equipment required for optimal performance: R30,000
Nicole’s passion, dedication, and extraordinary talent have already earned her numerous accolades, but she needs your help to continue her journey. Your support could be the key to making her dreams come true and helping her represent South Africa on the global powerlifting stage.
