Written by: Jacqui Save to InstapaperThe combined efforts of Fidelity Specialist Services teams, with support from Fidelity ADT, together with the West Rand SAPS and Vumacam, have led to the apprehension and arrest of two people, and the recovery of stolen property.
In the first incident on 31 March 2022 at approximately 14:25, a Vumacam alert was received at the Fidelity ADT Midrand Control Room for a wanted vehicle pertaining to other and serious crimes.
SAPS Members and Fidelity ADT Reaction officers in the West Rand area were alerted and through constant communication, the vehicle was tracked via the Vumacam network.
Fidelity ADT Reaction officers from the Helderkruin branch spotted the vehicle and backup was soon called.
Fidelity SIU members arrived quickly and the suspect was apprehended and handed over to West Rand K9 SAPS.
The second incident, which happened on the same day (31 March 2022) at approximately 14:40 another Vumacam alert was received at the Fidelity ADT Midrand Control Room for a stolen truck trailer reported in Reiger Park Boksburg.
Again all teams were alerted and the Fidelity SIU team intercepted the truck. SAPS West Rand arrived shortly after. The driver of the truck was questioned and later it was confirmed the trailer was still wanted on the SAPS database.
Truck and Trailer was taken to Aeroton pound for further investigation.Fanie Loots, Branch Manager for Fidelity ADT West Rand says “LPR cameras are an excellent crime deterrent. There are several benefits for both the community and security providers as the LPR cameras are linked to a national database of suspicious or stolen vehicles. The system is monitored 24-hours a day and the presence of the cameras themselves act as a good deterrent to criminals. Over the last couple of weeks, there have been several successes of suspects suspected of multiple crimes being detected and apprehended.”
