Close Collaboration Leads to the Arrest of Car Theft Syndicate
Written by: Jacqui Save to InstapaperThe combined efforts of Fidelity SIU, SAPS, Fidelity Business Intelligence Centre, a tracking company, and other security companies have resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of various stolen items.
For several months, a silver SUV had been targeting the West Rand area, specifically stealing Toyotas. The suspects would typically enter the area using different false or cloned number plates.
On the morning of 1 October, at approximately 11:00, tactical teams executed a successful joint operation, apprehending suspects involved in the theft of vehicles in the West Rand and surrounding areas. Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing & Communications for Fidelity Services Group, explained that on 30 September, the Fidelity Business Intelligence Centre gathered crucial information on the vehicle. By 1 October, at approximately 10:30, ground team members were strategically placed at key locations.
Using the intelligence provided, the suspects' vehicle was soon spotted. After a brief chase, the suspects attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended. The suspects were handed over to Krugersdorp SAPS.
In their possession, authorities found various breaking tools, a key-coding device, a signal jammer, and a set of number plates. The suspects and vehicle were positively linked to multiple motor vehicle theft cases in the West Rand area.
“This close collaboration with SAPS, tracking companies, and security companies once again highlights the importance of all stakeholders working together to fight crime. I commend our team for their swift action. We will continue to work together to send a strong message that lawlessness will not be tolerated,” concludes Hattingh.
