What started as a pleasant routine dog walk for Elma Park resident, Mr Bertamini, quickly turned into a nightmare when his beloved rescue dog, Luna accidentally fell into an open manhole.
Mr. Bertamini frantically tried to rescue his beloved pet but to no avail. At wits end he urgently reported the incident on the Elma Park community WhatsApp group. The Fidelity ADT Control Room picked up the distress message and urgently notified Officer Xolani Jingxi, who wasted no time in rushing to the scene. On arrival, Reaction Officer Jingxi managed to safely retrieve the frightened dog from the manhole, reuniting the pet with its grateful owner.
“I am so grateful to Officer Jingxi for all his help and the wonderfully calm manner in which he managed to save our frightened pet. I cannot thank him enough for all of his help and saving the day. What could have been a heart breaking accident turned out so well in the end,” says Bertamini
Charnel Hattingh Group Head of Marketing & Communications for Fidelity ADT says, “We are incredibly thankful for the quick response of Officer Jingxi, as well as the supportive neighbours who rallied together in a time of need. It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of community and kindness. Open manholes unfortunately continue to pose a real security hazard to residents and animals and we will be reporting this to the local municipality. We instil a sense of caring and going beyond the call of duty in our officers and are very proud when they step up to assist our customers,” concludes Hattingh.
