Roof robber apprehended red-handed in Tembisa
Written by: Jacqui Save to InstapaperIf you cannot get in the front door, the roof seems to be the other best option.
On 19 April Fidelity ADT apprehended a suspect who was caught red-handed in possession on 13 cellphones and other items.
Upon investigation it was discovered that two suspects climbed onto the roof of a premise at the Mall of Tembisa, cut through the corrugated iron roof, broke the ceiling and gained access into an electronics shop. They stole 13 cell phones as well as other items and fled the scene.
The next morning when the staff of the neighbouring shop opened their doors, they were surprised to find one of the suspects still in the centre in his shop and in possession of the 13 stolen cell phones. Fidelity ADT was immediately notified and suspects was apprehended and handed over to Seargent Ndlovu from Ivory Park SAPS.
“The owner was very relieved to be able to get all his stolen merchandise returned. At this stage we are not exactly sure what happened but we do urge all business owners to ensure that their alarm is fully functional before they leave the premises.
Another alternative worth looking at is microwave Passive Infra-Red detectors which are specifically designed for very hot areas – such as a roof. Normal infra-red detectors are not as effective when installed in extremely hot areas,” concludes Milly Barnard Community Development Manager for Fidelity ADT.
