Any homeowner worried about security should secure their perimeter first as this is your first line of defense in your home.
Just yesterday, on Wednesday 19 January at around 11:56, Fidelity ADT reaction officer Marumo received a call while he was on patrol from one of the residents informing him that there was a house break-in at a residence in Wendy road, Selcourt.
Fidelity ADT Reaction officer Marumo responded and arrived at the house minutes later. On arrival he unfortunately found no one there. He asked the neighbour and fortunately the young lady at the house had taken a video, she showed the reaction officer the footage of the suspect.
Reaction officer Marumo then drove out of the closure looking for the suspect who he identified along Rhokana Street outside the closure. He was able apprehend him and take him back to the house where the incident occurred.
On further investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had gained access into the property through the garage. With no perimeter fence he was able to force open the garage door and steal a selection of household garden tools which fortunately were all recovered. The owner of the property came home and identified the recovered items as his.
The suspect was handed over to Sergeant Khumalo from Springs SAPS
“Sheldon Grobler , Community Operations Manager for Fidelity ADT says perimeter security and access control remains the first and most powerful line of defense. “We urge all homeowners to consider installing outdoor detection devices and perimeter security to reduce the chances of criminals reaching your property and gaining access to your home. It needs to be seen as an investment not only in your assets but in your family too. Fortunately, technology, like CCTV for example, has evolved immensely over the last few years making it more affordable and more advanced than ever before,” says Grobler.
