Fidelity ADT apprehends brazen suspect following shooting incident in Kelvin.
Written by: Jacqui Save to InstapaperAt approximately midnight on the 3 of December a suspect was apprehended and arrested following a shooting incident that happened in Kelvin.
Fidelity ADT Reaction Officer, Abongile Mnengi, responded to a panic alarm activation. On arrival, he searched the premises and saw a suspect at the back of the premises hiding next to the perimeter wall. He ordered the suspect to lie down but the suspect ran away and was intercepted by a second ADT officer, Reaction Officer Munyai. In a further attempt to get away, the suspect picked up bricks and started throwing them at the officers. When he continued to assault the officers, two warning shots were fired. Just when the officers thought they had the suspect under control he managed to free himself and hurl more bricks at the officers. This time a shot was fired wounding the suspect. The suspect was handed over to Sandton SAPS and arrested.
On further investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had gained access by jumping over the electric fence and then went to the sliding door, demanding that the homeowner open the door.
Renee Coltham Fidelity ADT Community development Manager says” Fortunately the resident pressed the panic button and we were able to respond almost immediately.”
“Working closely with the SAPS and communities we can drive down crime in our suburbs and put these suspects behind bars. I congratulate all officers involved in this arrest.” she concludes.
