Camera surveillance is paying dividends in the Westrand

Fidelity’s strategic partnership with Vumacam is paying dividends in the Westrand with a total of 2216 cameras assigned to Fidelity ADT Helderkruin. Over the period 25 June to 30 July there have been 23 successes. “These are vehicles that have been flagged on our database as suspicious,” explains Wahl Bartmann, CEO for Fidelity Services Group. He says the system is highly sophisticated. “SAPS identify number plates of vehicles they urgently need to recover and these are fed into the system.
The Team then identifies the vehicle’s patterns and uses the relevant SAPS members to effect arrest. The team also works proactively focusing on high risk areas and identifying common plates that frequent these areas. Resources can then be contacted when the number plate triggers. “
Commenting on some of the specifics, Bartmann said seven of the vehicles had in fact been previously stolen but then recovered and not cleared properly with the pound which appears to be a common problem. He says unfortunately the onus rests on the motorist to clear the record on the car and this can take time.
In addition, two trucks were handed over, one involved in a hit and run and one stolen; as well as a number of other vehicles and suspects driving cars involved in earlier crimes.
We will continue to work closely with SAPS to extend capacity through this technology so that leads can be followed up that much more quickly and efficiently, concludes Bartmann.
