Celebrated South African singer and songwriter Berenike Trytsman, known as Berry, is excited to announce the release of her new single "10 000 Redes," her first song in Afrikaans. “I didn’t even plan to write an Afrikaans song! I went into the studio to check out the new music my husband had written, and suddenly, these Afrikaans lyrics just popped into my head. Within 10 minutes, I had both the lyrics and the melody down. It felt like divine inspiration, reminding me that there’s always a reason for everything you create as an artist,” admits Berry.
For Berry, the lyrics for 10 000 Redes are “very special”.“It’s a love song for lonely hearts searching for that perfect someone who gives you 10,000 reasons to love them. The song tells a story of feeling broken until you meet someone who heals you with their love, giving you endless reasons to adore them. It’s deeply connected tomy own journey and how I felt when I met my husband.”
Berry, a Cape Town native, comes from a family of professional opera singers. Her musical journey began early, with her first memories involving harmonizing with her parents on stage. At 14, she won her first competition, inspired by pop icons such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, and Celine Dion. Her dedication and talent led her to win Idols South Africa in 2021, securing a record deal with Kalawa Jazmee.
Reflecting on her journey, Berry shares, "Music has been an inseparable companion since the earliest moments of my life. My initial memories involve harmonizing with my parents on the stage of an opera concert."
Berry's debut single, "Ungowami," showcased her linguistic versatility, followed by her EP "Unspoken Words." In February 2023, Berry collaborated with DJ Cosher on "House of the Rising Sun." Her singles "Never Say Die" and "Bumper Sticker" further established her as a versatile artist in the music scene. Berry states, "With 'Never Say Die' and 'Bumper Sticker,' I wanted to reaffirm my presence on the airwaves and establish myself as an artist poised to shape the future of South African music."
Now, with "10 000 Redes”, which is available on all digital platforms, Berry embraces her Afrikaans heritage and connects with a broader audience. The upcoming "Berry Rocks!" show promises an unforgettable live music experience, featuring Berry's dynamic performances and latest hits.
“I pour my own experiences and feelings into every song, which helps me connect with my audience. This time, with an Afrikaans song, I hope to reach a whole new group of listeners.I kept the lyrics simple so everyone can understand and enjoy it, even if their Afrikaans is a bit rusty.
Berry expresses her excitement, "Releasing '10 000 Redes' is a significant milestone for me, as it connects me with my Afrikaans roots and allows me to reach a wider audience."
10 000 redes is now available on all digital platforms.
