Baruch Entertainers, a distinguished troupe in the Cape Town Minstrels community, is thrilled to announce the launch of their new Theme Song for the 2025 carnival competition. This highly anticipated event will take place on Friday, 27 September, at Plug Studios in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town.
Doors open at 8 pm and will feature an exciting lineup of top DJs, including DJ Chello, DJ Liam Hans, DJ Taylor, Mr. Morris, and DJ Liam Cue. Attendees will also enjoy a special guest performance by the talented artists Dejavu.
All proceeds from the event will go towards funding uniforms and other essential items for Baruch Entertainers' participation in the upcoming street parade and competition.
The Significance of the Theme Song
Claude Jonas, Chairman of Baruch Entertainers, shared his thoughts on the importance of the Theme Song: "Over the years, our theme song has become a fitting item that complements the theme a troupe decides on for the carnival competition. It’s about the fun, the creativity, and the unorthodox thinking that creates a wow factor for our band and troupe."
The Theme Song was crafted by some of the Cape Flats’ finest musical talents, including Taurik Blignaut, Choral Maestro Monwabisi Mbambani, and renowned DJ Neeno. Leading musicians such as Laeeq Stewart, Brett-Marvin Edwards, and Jonathan Linnen, along with their "Jingles" members led by Morne’ Wessels, all contributed to this unique production. Jonas adds, "The song has been produced by Taurik Blignaut, who is synonymous with the minstrel fraternity and is the best in the business when it comes to culture and music. But as for the singing, we don't want to give too much away—it will be a surprise and will be heard for the first time on the night of the event."
Baruch Entertainers: Tradition and Innovation
Baruch Entertainers are known for their blend of tradition and innovation within the Minstrels community. Jonas explains: "We are a troupe who honours the tradition in music and voice, but at the same time, we aim to be creative. Competition is extremely tough, and it takes a lot of brain power, skill, and natural talent to achieve success."
This event is not just about entertainment; it’s a testament to Baruch Entertainers' commitment to giving back to the community. "Our vision has always been to give back to the communities we come from. It may not change the world, but we strive to add value to lives, especially in these difficult times in our country," Jonas says.
