In a heart-warming display of generosity and community collaboration, 939 pairs of school shoes were handed to 15 local primary schools in the Bizana area.
The Alfred Nzo East Department of Basic Education received the donation on behalf of learners from Ebenezer and Plangeni junior secondaries, and Lingelethu, Mdatya Free Methodist, Lukholo, Topozo, Izwelethu, Sijadu, Sigidi, Cwaka, Ncenjane, Madadana, KwaNtika and Mpunzi Drift primaries.
The initiative was driven by Wild Coast Sun, who donated 200 pairs, under the leadership of the Resort’s very own celebrity, Marketing Manager Cynthia Nene, as Mrs Bold 2024. The remainder were donated by individual donors and suppliers including Tsebo Catering services, Doo Donuts, Food Express & Gourmet, Spur, Magic Company, Uyabonwa Security, TBAC, Halfway Ford Port Shepstone, uniting to make a difference in the lives of learners.
The handover event was attended by the Department of Basic Education’s Vakele Dumela, on behalf of the Alfred Nzo East District Director, school principals, and beneficiaries, and reinforced the importance of ensuring that children have access to essential school wear.
“Many learners in underprivileged communities walk long distances to school, often without proper footwear, making this initiative a crucial intervention in their education journey. Wild Coast Sun is passionate about uplifting the communities in which we operate, and ensuring that no child is held back by circumstances they cannot control,” said Henry Boekhouer, Wild Coast Sun General Manager. “Education is the foundation for a brighter future, and we are honoured to contribute.”
Chairman of the MCPA Corporate Social Investment Committee, ES Mchunu shared the committee’s objectives on the contributions made, saying the campaign was about “dignity, confidence, and making sure that every child can step into the classroom with pride”.
“This handover would not have been possible without the generosity of Wild Coast Sun suppliers, tenants, staff and individuals in the area who contributed school shoes. Their collective efforts ensured that hundreds of children now have proper footwear, removing one more barrier to their education,” said Nene.
“The school shoe donation campaign is part of Wild Coast Sun’s intention to collaborate more with our business partners to empower communities.”
