What’s on at Sibaya this December?
Written by: Melissa Dos Reis Goncalves Save to Instapaper
Riaad Moosa brings his award-winning comedy to the iZulu Theatre, as he asks the eternal question, what’s the point? He calls it his “lame attempt at being funny and philosophical” – but audiences know better: It’s comedy gold. There will be a showcase of folk, traditional and chutney music with the Chutney & Nagara Spectacular, and the hilarious Uncle Juggie will give you his take on Christmas. The annual KZN Showcase on Saturday, 27 December, is dedicated to elevating local excellence in music, dance, theatre, comedy, fashion, and creative performance. The final show of 2025 is Tash’s Festive Bash on Sunday, 28 December 2025.
Riaad Moosa What’s The Point? – Friday, 12 December to Sunday, 15 December 2025
Award-winning comedian, presenter, writer and actor (and legitimate doctor), Riaad Moosa, is hitting the road with his latest show, "What’s the Point?". Known as “The Comedy Doctor”, Moosa’s unique blend of humour and intellect guarantees a thought-provoking and laugh-out-loud experience for audiences nationwide. Moosa uses comedy to tackle sensitive issues like Islamic stereotypes, Islamophobia, racism and prolapsed haemorrhoids. His other subjects range from Bollywood to current politics to apartheid. Moosa chooses not to use profanity and explicit vocabulary
In What’s the Point? Moosa humorously navigates the chaos of the world, ponders the meaning of life, and questions humanity’s purpose on this planet. With his signature wit and charm, this doctor-turned-comedian offers what he calls his “lame attempt at being funny and philosophical” – but audiences know better: It’s comedy gold.
Moosa spent three years training in magic and became a silver medallion graduate of the College of Magic in Cape Town and was presented with the Comedy Magic award at the Centre for the Magical Arts in Cape Town. His future in magic was terminated when somebody doing flash photography illuminated the wire across the stage where his magic orb was floating. Moosa then spent six years training in medicine at University of Cape Town Medical School where he graduated in 2001. He is a qualified medical doctor and GP and worked as such for three years.
His comedy career overlapped with his studies; Moosa started doing stand-up on campus during his fourth year at UCT, and he started performing at the Cape Comedy Collective's free Comedy Lab workshops, and just two months later, he was the winner of the "One City, Many Comics Talent Competition" held as part of the One City Festival. He became a regular headliner on the comedy circuit and was invited to perform on Pieter-Dirk Uys's Evita Live and Dangerous e.tv comedy show.
In 2000, he came to prominence on the comedy-club circuit in Cape Town, and his career in the spotlight has continued ever since.
