On 3 Wednesday, August, the Fidelity ADT office in White River received a phone call from their Specialist Intervention Unit regarding a house robbery in progress at a hostel for scholars in the White River area.
Two Vehicles were immediately dispatched to the hostel and members of the Community in Blue through the local White River POLSEC WhatsApp group were also notified for assistance.
Joe de Bruyn, Branch Manager of Fidelity ADT White River says Fidelity ADT was first to arrive on the scene followed by Hi-Tech Security. “Our officers immediately made contact with the victims and were told that a group of seven armed unknown suspects had broken into the hostel when they were all relaxing inside. According to the witnesses, the suspects immediately informed the children to keep quiet and then instructed all the children to undress while they searched for valuables.”
De Bruyn says the suspects managed to make off with all the laptops, cell phones, and clothing from the hostel.
A white Toyota Avanza belonging to the owner of the hostel was used as a getaway vehicle and all the stolen items were loaded inside the Avanza. At that point SAPS White River took over the scene and the rest of the FADT members started searching for the stolen vehicle. Approximately 30 minutes later, Fidelity’s Specialist Unit was able to recover the vehicle on the Spioenkop road just outside White River.
Unfortunately, all the suspects had fled with the goods at that stage but a case has been opened with White River SAPS and we encourage anyone who has any details to contact SAPS as soon as possible.
