Fidelity ADT Thwarts Attempted Fraud and Theft at Local Garage
Written by: Jacqui Save to InstapaperIn a swift response to suspicious activity, Fidelity ADT, a leading security company, successfully prevented attempted petrol and car oil theft, as well as fraudulent card usage at a petrol station on Bowling Road, Gallo Manor.
At 10:41 AM, three suspects arrived at the garage in a silver Hyundai hatchback. They ordered the petrol attendant, to fill up their vehicle and give them a pint of car oil. The suspects’ behaviour raised suspicion, prompting the petrol attendant to press the panic button.
Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing & Communications for Fidelity ADT, praised the quick thinking of the petrol attendant and the rapid response of their team. “Our Senior Reaction Officer Matjila arrived on the scene within two minutes of activation,” she said.
The garage manager, Mr Moolla, who had been observing the suspects on CCTV, also came out to investigate. Upon realizing they had been noticed, the suspects abandoned their pint of oil and fled from the garage. Mr Moolla gave chase in his black BMW.
Officer Matjila noticed Mr. Moolla’s familiar vehicle and followed him along with backup Officer Letjeku. They intercepted the suspects at the corner of Bowling and 8th Avenue.
Upon apprehension, three suspected stolen credit cards were found in possession of the suspects. The South African Police Service (SAPS) was called to the scene, and Sergeant Mnisi took the suspects into custody.Hattingh added, “This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and quick action in preventing crime. We commend our team’s rapid response and Mr. Moolla’s bravery in this situation.”Fidelity ADT withdrew from the scene once SAPS took over, having successfully thwarted a potential crime.
