Written by: Khanya Mavata Save to Instapaper
Empire Band is a dynamic live music group based in hometown Kimberley, known for their smooth fusion of jazz, R&B, pop, reggae, kwaito, and soul. Originally formed in 2015, the band has built a strong reputation both locally and nationally.
Their performances are vibrant and engaging, often delivered in a roaming, unplugged style that brings the music directly to the audience. The band’s lineup typically includes vocals, saxophone, keyboard, guitar, drums, cajón, and bass — producing a full, sophisticated sound that blends classic influences with modern flair.
They’ve shared stages with major artists like Jonathan Butler and Dr Victor, and have performed at popular venues like the Flamingo Casino Conference Centre, where they are returning next Friday, where they will be joined by Burton Mpho on sax.
Empire Band is celebrated for their musical versatility, crowd connection, and polished stage presence — making them one of the Northern Cape’s top professional cover bands.
