South African Finance Teams Face Growing Pressure to Validate AI-Generated Reports
Written by: Arnold Muscat Save to Instapaper
Durban, May 06, 2026 - AI tools such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot are becoming common in finance departments across South Africa. Many employees are already using AI to help with reports, summaries, budgets, and analysis.
But College Africa Group (CAG) says there is a growing problem. Staff are often trusting AI-generated information without properly checking the results.
“AI can save time, but finance teams are still responsible for the numbers,” says Arnold Muscat, Director of College Africa Group. “The output may look professional and convincing, even when parts of it are wrong.”
Business Focus Areas
CAG says businesses should focus on: validating AI-generated reports, improving Excel skills, understanding AI limitations, and training staff to use AI responsibly.
“AI produces language — not truth,” says Muscat. “Employees still need to verify calculations and understand the business context behind the information.”
Training Services
CAG provides corporate training throughout South Africa in: Microsoft Excel, AI in the Workplace, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Project, and professional workplace skills.
