King Price Xtreme mountain biker Jaedon Terlow - Nerves are natural

Some people chase medals, others chase podiums. King Price Xtreme’s elite mountain biker Jaedon Terlow chases being the best. He has just 1 goal: Continually pushing himself beyond his limits and always coming out stronger, faster, and a step closer to the top.

He says that competitive mountain biking isn’t just about pedalling hard. It’s about strategy, endurance, and mental toughness. ‘You need to be so mentally strong to race. I prepare my mind to push my body really hard.’ And he firmly believes that the nerves help, too. While others might crumble under race-day pressure, Jaedon thrives on it. ‘The nerves naturally kick in, and it’s like a jump start for me.’

Over the years, he’s learned that adaptability is key. Experience has shaped his training, race strategies, and how he approaches every ride. ‘I’m always looking for marginal gains,’ he says. ‘Little improvements that add up to big results. And when setbacks happen, because they always do, I keep pushing forward. I work even harder because I know that it’ll eventually pay off.’

What’s the 1 thing that never changes? His pre-race meal. He keeps it consistent, eating the same thing before every race. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, as they say. But Jaedon isn’t saying exactly what this power meal is.

This season, Jaedon has his sights set on achieving big-time in the Cape Epic, which is arguably the most gruelling yet prestigious mountain bike race on the local calendar. Beyond that? He wants to race against the best in the world, all over the world.

He’s got the talent. He’s got the mindset. And he’s got the backing of King Price, a sponsor that does so much more than just slap a logo on his jersey. ‘King Price gives us more than support; they create a community that stands with us every step of the way. When you’re surrounded by people who believe in you, who push you, and who share your ambitions, it makes a huge difference.’

Encouraged by his father and grandfather, who both have deep roots in the cycling industry, Jaedon started riding in high school. Now, 9 years into his racing career and in his second year with the King Price sponsored Pyga team, he’s still just getting started.

His advice for newcomers to the sport is exactly what he tells himself every day: ‘Take risks, and don’t be afraid to lose or fail.’ Because if there’s 1 thing Jaedon knows for sure, it’s that the best riders don’t let failure drag them down. Instead, they use it to fuel their next personal best.

Jaedon’s biggest motivation for riding his bike is his faith. This belief, combined with his relentless determination to be the best, makes him a formidable competitor.
