Sheridan Seller - The strength behind Clint Seller’s superbike success

When Sheridan Stols met King Price Xtreme team leader Clint Seller 13 years ago, motorsport was already part of who he was. He’d been racing long before they crossed paths, and she quickly realised that it was in his blood and would dictate the rhythm of their family life too.

Behind the scenes of race weekend

Now married to the 13-time champion and raising two children together, Sheridan Seller is an integral part of the support structure behind Clint’s success. Race weekends come with their own routine, and the couple knows exactly what they need from each other before Clint heads out onto the track.

“Some of the things we do are practical, and some are just little things between us that we don’t even have to talk about,” she says. “It’s our routine, and it helps us both get into the right headspace.”

Her role includes making sure Clint is hydrated and has something to eat, although persuading a rider focused on the race ahead to stop for food isn’t always easy. On some days, a banana or half a sandwich is the best she can manage. Just as importantly, though, Sheridan helps keep him calm, focused, and grounded.

But being married to a professional athlete means far more than packing snacks and standing trackside. Behind every race are the unseen pressures of running a business, managing family life, and carrying the disappointments when things don’t go according to plan.

“People aren’t always aware of everything happening behind the scenes,” Sheridan says. “But when you’re married to someone in motorsport, you’re living the career alongside them. You may not be the one racing, but you’re part of the team every single day.”

Encouraging ambition and risk

Sheridan understands that motorsport is central to who Clint is and has always encouraged him to pursue opportunities… In fact, she’s often the one pushing him to take the next positive risk: “Clint has made me more ambitious, and I’m probably more of a risk-taker than he is. I encouraged him to start his own racing team. I believe in what he can do.”

Of course, life in motorsport also comes with moments when belief is tested. One of the most difficult came while Clint was competing in Spain. Watching the race live from South Africa with their daughters, Sheridan saw him crash hard enough for the race to be red flagged.

Waiting for news was agonising. “We were on the other side of the world, we couldn’t get to him, and we didn’t know what was happening,” she says. “But I have a lot of faith in Clint and his talent. I always believe he’ll be okay. And I also believe his mom is his guardian angel.”

Women’s Month and support

This Women’s Month, Sheridan is celebrating the strength that often goes unseen. She says that courage isn’t only found behind the handlebars at high speed, it’s also found in the person waiting for the phone to ring and keeping the family together.

Her advice to women supporting someone with a dream that carries real risk is to celebrate their partner’s passion without losing sight of their own ambitions.

“Stand beside them, not behind them,” she says. “Support their dreams, but keep building your own identity, happiness, and goals too. A strong relationship is about two people growing together.”

For Sheridan, the chequered flag may belong to the rider, but the journey belongs to the team. And when Clint lines up on the grid, he knows that underneath his helmet and horsepower is the woman who believes in him enough to let him fly.
