Published: 22 January 2015

AXECESS presents Tyga and SchoolboyQ live in South Africa at #AXECESSJozi on the 7th of March 2015. Be sure not to miss this epic event!

Johannesburg, South Africa –On the7th of March 2015, #AXECESSJozi will welcome two mega Hip Hop artists, Tyga and SchoolboyQ, who will be performing in Johannesburg for the first time together, brought to you by Axe.

This is the first announcement phase of the international artist line up for Axecess Jozi 2015. Additional international and local artists will be announced in January 2015, so keep it locked on www.axecess.com for more information. Let’s get the Twitter-sphere rocking by using the hash tag #whoisjozibound?

Spend one night with these lyrical geniuses at the Mary Fitzgerald Square, in the heart of the Johannesburg CBD, where there will be an array of both international and local celebrities, as well as VIP A-listers.

AXE is exceptionally excited to be the pioneers who are bringing these multi-award winning artists into the country after successfully hosting the Big Sean concert in 2014. This one-night affair guarantees to bring out the essence of what it means for music and lifestyle to intersect.

“AXE and Music are integrally linked,” says Sphe Mjadu, Public Relations Manager for Personal Care, Unilever. Music is central to youth culture; hosting Axecess Jozi for the second year proves that this is a great way to connect with our consumers.”

Hip Hop superstar, Tyga, needs very little introduction. With over 5 million followers on both Twitter and Instagram, his celebrity status is undisputed. From his early days of releasing mixtapes, his debut mixtape ‘Young on Probation’ garnered enough hype that culminated in him landing his first record deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment label. Needless to say, this began the tidal wave of hits ranging from the track "Deuces" which was released as the debut single of the mixtape and, as of August 26 2010,  reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. More recently, on September 12 2014, Tyga announced via Instagram that his new single titled "40 Mill", which will be produced by Kanye West, Mike Dean, Dupri and his own producer Jess Jackson, is set to launch.. The upcoming album is also set to have features from Justin Bieber, Young Thug, Kanye West, Chris Brown and Drake.

Whether you are talking about SchoolboyQ’s independent albums “Setbacks” and “Habits and Contradictions”, or his contributions to Hip Hop group Black Hippy together with Jay Rock and Ab-soul, he has undoubtedly been in the rap game for a long time. His most contemporary album “Oxymoron” which has hits like “Studio” and “Man of the year” have made the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Upon its release, Oxymoron debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 139,000 copies in the United States.  In April this year, SchoolboyQ also made his solo magazine cover debut with the April/May issue of the long-standing Hip Hop magazine The Source, which hit newsstands on April 10 2014.

Jalibird Productions, the company behind the spectacular production of the Axecess Jozi featuring Big Sean earlier in 2014, will be the team behind the production in 2015 in partnership with Glen21.

AXECESS Jozi returns on March 7, 2015. In anticipation of this, AXE looks back to AXCESS Jozi 2014 and remembers the highlights of this extravagant urban music festival.

Johannesburg, South Africa – AXECESS Jozi returns to Newtown’s Mary Fitzgerald Square bigger and better with three international hip-hop acts dropping by for a one-night only musical extravaganza come March 7, 2015.

The second edition of the annual AXECESS Jozi festival follows a little over a year after megastar Big Sean set the square ablaze alongside local talent including AKA, Da Les and Reason, among others. Legendary local hip-hop crew Teargas also made their mark on the AXE stage and the night was, without a doubt, one of the biggest hip-hop gatherings of 2014.

Kuli Chana re-united with his Morafe peers and together they roused the crowds with their classics including “Lekwalo to Metswako” and “The Whole Thing”.

AKA and Da Les turned the swag up a notch by performing some of their best loved hits and all the while the audience was getting heated up for the act of the night, while not only enjoying the best musical acts but also the eye-popping spectacle of world-class stage design, a spectacular fireworks display and an all-round festive atmosphere in the heart of the colourful city.

Titanium area VVIP guests had the exclusive opportunity to rub shoulders with socialites and celebrities alike while SkyroomLive.com was on hand, live-streaming the festival to over 354, 000 viewers who logged on to watch AXECESS Jozi live, a first for any festival in South Africa.

An interactive photo booth located on the festival grounds was constantly jammed with fans documenting the memories that they were making and sharing them throughout a variety of social media platforms.

Hot on the heels of his Billboard chart topping sophomore release ‘Hall of Fame’, Big Sean delivered his first ever performance on African soil and even the rain wasn’t  enough to dampen the spirit of the crowd as they sang along to the rapper’s hits including Beware, Guap and “Dance (A$$)”, which remains one of his biggest to date. A few lucky competition winners even got to meet the rapper for an epic backstage #selfie.

AXECESS Jozi 2014 marked AXE’s first foray into the entertainment circuit. 2015 will establish the festival as an annual event giving the AXE man the ultimate access to world-class entertainment by bringing together the best global and local musical talents.

With three international acts, all of who will be performing on African soil for the first time, AXECESS Jozi 2015 is set to become yet another explosive urban music event, or should we say extravaganza.
