Kubu Strings Bring the Stage to Life at Bay Harbour Market
Submitted by: Ian DickinsonHOUT BAY, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA: 11 July 2012: We’ve got music across several genres this weekend at Bay Harbour Market with Flamenco guitar from Kubu Strings, local Hangberg jazz from Jackson Vibe and acoustic rock from Stefan Dixon.
On Friday July 13, Cape Town-based Flamenco guitar duo Kubu Strings takes to the Brampton Sound Stage at the Bay Harbour Market, Hout Bay for Friday Night LIVE! Comprised of classically-trained musicians Pierre Fourie and Nizaar Allie, Kubu Strings combines Nouveau Flamenco guitar sounds with Bossa nova, nu jazz, classical, Eastern and African beats. They perform original compositions and are certainly not to be missed.
On Saturday July 14, local Hangberg jazz band Jackson Vibe takes to the Brampton Sound Stage. The members of this young ensemble began their musical careers playing at a community church and have gone on to become popular Hout Bay regulars with their blend of Cape jazz and swing. Whilst very dedicated to producing fine music, Jackson Vibe are closely linked to community activities and tend to relish performance opportunities that come their way.
On Sunday July 15, the weekend draws to a close with an exciting performance from South African singer-songwriter Stefan Dixon. Stefan performs acoustic, melodic rock and draws his influence from the likes of SA musical icons Vusi Mahlasela and Johnny Clegg. He also draws inspiration from nature, and the curses that humans have afflicted upon it. His songs are highly emotive and thought-provoking.
It’s also birthday time for the Bay Harbour Market this month, so there will be a variety of specials on offer. African Kitchen is offering patrons the chance to win a catered potjiekos evening for 6 friends, a falkirk potjie or 50% off on a dinner when you buy a potjie at the market, while Tallulahs is offering a discount on all their goods with the cheapest items on offer for only R50 and no items above the R200 mark. The Bay Harbour Market showcases over 100 stalls featuring arts, crafts, fashion, decor and delicious cuisine.
