SA Idols Winner Dave van Vuuren Performs at Bay Harbour Market
Submitted by: Ian DickinsonWinner of the seventh South African Idols, Dave van Vuuren teams up with solo acoustic artist Justin Serrao and self-professed tech-rock musician Jed James to entertain Sunday market goers, while the Buchanan Brothers return for Friday Nite LIVE! and the Barleycorn Music Club are set to entertain visitors on Saturday.
Friday Nite LIVE! 29 November – Buchanan Blues Bros
Friday Night LIVE! on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage sees brothers Mark and Ian Buchanan - The Buchanan Brothers Blues Band. Their love for the blues started at an early age. Mark’s passion for music led him to Johannesburg to play music professionally for 8 years.
Mark has performed with a number of popular artists including Just Jinger, Max Normal and The Original Evergreens. Mark currently plays for Closet Snare, an electronic jazz outfit in Cape Town, and performs acoustic originals, but his love of the Fender Stratocaster and the blues has seen him collaborate with his brother to form The Buchanan Brothers Blues Band.
Mark and Ian are backed by the steady rhythms of Mark Macdonald, a well-seasoned drummer. This band is designed to enjoy and spread the blues and pays homage to Hendrix, Stevie Ray and all the greats. Their motto is, "Without the blues there would be nothing."
Saturday 30 November – Barleycorn Music Club
The Barleycorn Music Club is a non-profit organisation supporting South African music and has met every Monday for the past 37 years to share their love and passion for music. Much like the Bay Harbour Sound Stage, the Barleycorn Music Club acts as a platform where local musicians can showcase their abilities. On Saturday, committee members of the Barleycorn Music Club take to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage giving local artists the chance to “meet” Bay Harbour Market.
Sunday 1 December - Justin Serrao, Dave van Vuuren, Jed James
Prepare for an amazing collaboration of solo artists on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage on Sunday -Justin Serrao, Daven van Vuuren, Jed James unify to provide visitors to the market with a musical performance unlike any other.
Justin Serrao is a solo acoustic, contemporary folk musician that sings from the heart! His music is written from real experiences, adventures and ideas. Justin has performed shows with the likes of Prime Circle, Parlotones, Albert Frost, Aking, Wrestlerish, Short Straw, Jeremy Loops, Southern Gypsy Queen, Naming James, Wickhead, Wonderboom and Shawn Phillips, to name a few.
Winner of the seventh season of South African Idols, there are few musicians in the country who can match the soul and feeling of David van Vuuren’s performances. In 2011, South African Idols shot Dave to fame, but ‘pop star’ was never the kind of musician he wanted to become. Dave’s alternative style combines soul, folk, ambience and grunge sounds, and makes him a truly unique artist.
Jed James completes the trio for the performance on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage on Sunday. A solo rock artist who is pioneering the hybrid ‘Tech-rock’ genre of music, Jed combines the best elements of Rock, Pop and Technology-based music.
Bay Harbour Market is open from 5 pm to 9 pm for Friday Nite LIVE! from 10.30 am to 6 pm on Saturday (Summer trading times) and 9.30 am to 4 pm on Sunday. Entrance is free. For more information email: info@bayharbour.co.za or visit the website: www.bayharbour.co.za
