Guitar Legend Steve Newman tp Perform at Bay Harbour Market this Weekend
Submitted by: Ian DickinsonThe weekend kicks off with the return of jazz/funk trio Acid Blues for Friday Nite LIVE! On Saturday, accomplished guitarist Steve Newman treats shoppers to a vibrant set on the acoustic guitar; and on Sunday, sit back and relax to the melodious tunes of folk- rock artist Playne Jane.
Returning to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage for Friday Nite LIVE! is powerful jazz/funk trio Acid Blues. Consisting of founding member and super-talented jazz guitarist James Kibby, renowned funk/blues/punk bassist Maurice Paliaga and experienced session drummer Richard Pickett, this is a collaboration that is sure to impress, again.
On Saturday, market goers can enjoy the compelling tunes of South African guitar legend Steve Newman. Most famously known for his band Tananas which formed in 1987, Steve is a guitarist with a musical career that spans almost 30 years. Newman has produced 17 recorded albums and has won multiple awards. His remarkable skills on the guitar and infallible fusion of eclectic sounds, Newman’s performance on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage is not to be missed.
Playne Jane is a concept of singer/songwriter Michelle Coetzee and presents a soothing blend of folk, rock and acoustic music on Sunday. Born in Johannesburg, Michelle started playing the guitar at the age of fifteen and began writing songs from the age of sixteen. Michelle lends her writing style to the folk-rock genre with a definite Celtic influence. Inspired by many nineties bands like The Cranberries, Nirvana, Sheryl Crow, Tracy Chapman and many others Michelle has a very folky edge to her music. Michelle also draws inspiration from some world music artists like Loreena Mckennit and Enya.
