Congrats on the home renovation. Remember to alert your security company
Submitted by: JacquiAlerting your security company after you’ve done any home renovations, is a key element of any home security system. It helps ensure that your alarms still do the monitoring that you expect them to do.
“Home upgrades and renovations can include anything from knocking through a wall to create an open plan kitchen, fixes to the plumbing in the bathroom, to even closing off your garage and forming an outside flat. Any of these could potentially affect the alarm system’s ability to properly monitor your property,” says Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Communications and Marketing at Fidelity ADT.
Alarm technicians recommend the most effective placement of beams and sensors depending on the physical layout of your building. If anything is changed on the layout, it is recommended that technicians come to see if any changes are required.
“Don’t forget the cables. If your system was reliant on a phone line to connect with your security company’s monitoring centre and you move from a landline to fibre, then you must certainly alert your security provider,” says Hattingh.
At the same time, any repair work to your building following storm damage should be followed by a visit from a technician. Alarm systems are susceptible to water or wind damage, especially any items that are installed outdoors.
“A home renovation is a very important investment in your most prized asset. Congratulations and we wish you years of happiness and enjoyment. By making sure your alarm system is updated we are sure you will be able to enjoy your home with the comfort that your security company is ready to respond in case of an emergency,” says Hattingh.
She recommends contacting your armed response company today if you have any questions about the effectiveness of your security system. They can also recommend if any newer products are available that can more effectively protect your residence and your loved ones.
