Blues, Jazz and a One Man Band at Bay Harbour Market
Submitted by: Ian DickinsonThe Bay Harbour Market comes to life this weekend with performances from blues-rock maestro Johnny Ray, eclectic jazz band Circle of Friends and ‘one-man band’ Jamie Jupiter.
Hitting the stage on August 24 for Friday Nite LIVE! is acclaimed blues-rock guitarist Johnny Ray and his band Crash. With his rough voice and strong guitar-playing skills Johnny Ray’s lively Blues-Rock style is suited for a party of any kind. From slow ballads like "Wonderful Tonight", to pop, and old-school rock songs like Black Sabbath's "Paranoid", he is sure to get the audience singing along. Johnny incorporates an element of comedy into his performances as well, making him an all-round entertainer who is as comfortable on a stage at a rock festival as he is at a five-star restaurant. With a huge array of festivals, rallies, residencies and private and corporate gigs under his belt, Johnny Ray is a highly experienced musician.
Coming to you live from the Brampton Sound Stage on Saturday August 25 is eclectic jazz band Circle of Friends (C.O.F). This accomplished four-piece formed in late 2009 have played at carnivals and corporate functions all over the Western Cape. Although their roots are firmly based in jazz and gospel, Circle of Friends covers a wide variety of contemporary music that’s sure to leave you wanting more.
Bringing his impressive musical skills to the Bay Harbour Market on Sunday August 26 is ‘one man band’ Jamie Jupiter. Jamie is an experienced muso having played different instruments for various bands both locally and abroad. His diverse skills come to life in his solo show, which utilizes live recorded sound loops allowing Jamie to layer each song with a multitude of fascinating sounds creating the effect of a full band. Watching him create his sound is an education and a treat.
In addition to awesome live music, arts, crafts, fashion, decor and delicious cuisine, Bay Harbour is also hosting a monthly comedy showcase on the first Wednesday of each month. The line-up for the 5th September 2012 features Martin Davis (UK) hosting support acts Carl Weber and Anne Hirsch and the headliner is one of Cape Town’s best established comedians – Stuart Taylor. Tickets are on sale now – the inaugural show was sold out, so make sure you get your tickets early!
