Birthday Buzz At Bay Harbour Market
Submitted by: Ian DickinsonIt’s party time at the Bay Harbour Market this month as the unique venue celebrates its first birthday! To commemorate the occasion, the market is dishing up a host of specials as well as an exciting line-up of fresh talent, from tuneful trios to dynamic duos.
Taking to the Brampton Sound Stage on July 20 for Friday Nite LIVE! is accomplished Cape Town band the Roy Davids Trio. Comprised of talented session musician and drummer Roy Davids, experienced contra bass player Tino Europa and hip, fresh keyboard player Blake Hellaby, the trio are sure to create some groovy energy.
Entertaining audiences on Saturday July 21 is unique jazz-fusion band Abbott Nu Jazz. Created by SAMA-nominated artist Guillaume de Villiers, this outfit is bound to wow audiences as they cross and blend genres with a creative use of contemporary technology. Abbott Nu Jazz makes use of live stage looping and masterful improvisation to create their distinctive sound.
Ending the weekend off on July 22 is 2011 Maties Talent winners Luma. Having performed in Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington and Cape Town, this talented instrumental duo is a collaboration of flamenco guitar and classical violin merged by the composition of new, exciting melodies. Luma's repertoire ranges from melancholic to energetic and is definitely not to be missed.
The Bay Harbour Market also showcases over 100 stalls featuring arts, crafts, fashion, decor and delicious cuisine. This weekend marks the introduction of brand new trader, Unwrapped. This unique surface design company was started in 2011 by artist, designer and illustrator Mandi Garbman. The idea of turning works of art into usable, flexible, 3-dimensional objects on textiles, paper and soft furnishings for around your home is the driving force behind the Unwrapped goodies.
