Friday Nite LIVE! 9 August - Lionel Bastos
On 9 August Lionel Bastos serenades market goers with his amazing voice and stimulating lyrics. The multiple-award winning artist/singer/songwriter has written songs and produced albums for some of the top artists in South Africa and abroad including Vicky Sampson, Wendy Oldfield, Yvonne Chaka-Chaka (The Princess Of Africa), David Abatte (For The Miss World Pageant), Leigh Matty (UK), The Reespect (Germany), James Stewart, Karin Nortje (Pop Idol) and Jeremy Mansfield to name a few. Lionel is one of the most recorded songwriters in South Africa in the genres of pop, rock, folk rock, world, jazz, blues, R&B, kwaito and country rock.
Saturday 10 August – Paddy Visser and Ernesto Vialva
On Saturday 10 August market goers can groove to the soothing sounds of saxophonist, vocalist and guitar player Marleen “Paddy” Visser along with bass player Ernesto Vialva. Marleen is a professional musician who has performed at numerous private and corporate functions, solo or as part of a duo. She plays everything from light jazz and popular ballads to more up-tempo pop. She is also the tenor sax player in Big Band. She will be joined on stage by Trinidadian bass player Ernesto Vialva. A well-known figure in the Cape Town jazz scene, Ernesto has played with a multitude of musos in and around South Africa.
Sunday 11 August – Dan & Jimi
Ending the weekend on Sunday 11 August are guitar maestros Dan Boshoff and Jimi Curve. This acoustic and bass guitar duo draw on a range of folk and world influences including classic Southern African coastal music such as Tananas.
