When The Lights Go OFF, The Show Goes ON…

Submitted by: Janet de Kretser

Stage 3 till 4pm; Stage 6 from 8pm; Stage 4 tomorrow at 2am… for most of us, trying to keep tabs on the latest – and constantly shifting – loadshedding schedule seems like a job best suited to Napoleon waging war, or by making a Wish upon a star. But, what’s not complicated is deciding how to keep the kids – and yourselves – entertained during those endless two-hour blackout blocks.  Ster-Kinekor has the answer – and the power!

Back-up generators and UPS (uninterrupted power supply) units have been installed in almost 75% of the leading cinema chain’s complexes across the country, giving audiences an uninterrupted movie experience from the opening frame to the end credits. As a result, a movie ticket is just the ticket you need to be transported into a world of fantasy, action, adventure, laughter or romance – and, to get a break from life’s daily powerless frustrations.

“With 32 of our 43 cinema complexes now fitted with generators, we ensure that the show goes on, even when the lights go off! The movie will keep playing on the big screen, and it’s the perfect answer to loadshedding. With a feast of blockbuster titles releasing on our screens over the next few weeks, as we gear up for the much-anticipated festive season, there is something for everyone to enjoy,” says Lynne Wylie, chief marketing officer of Ster-Kinekor.

“And, of course, with our IMAX cinemas, you have the opportunity to watch some of the biggest titles on the biggest screens in the country.”

Filmed specifically using IMAX cameras for a fully immersive cinema experience, some of the big titles that are being released in IMAX in time for the festive holiday period, include a magical movie for the whole family, Wonka, releasing on 08 December, with the much-anticipated Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opening on 22 December in time for the Christmas Day long weekend.

RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ, which opened in cinemas globally on 01 December, can be enjoyed in Ster-Kinekor’s luxurious Cine Prestige cinemas nationally.

As you are transported into another world for a few hours, the uninterrupted action unfolding on the big screen will deliver the rest!” says Wylie.
