Gypsy Jazz and Reggae Music Step Up the Mood at Bay Harbour Market this Weekend
Submitted by: Ian DickinsonEnding a month of birthday celebrations, Manouche, the vibrant gypsy jazz band, takes to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage for Friday Nite LIVE! on 26 July. On Saturday 27 July, popular Cape Town reggae band The Rivertones evokes the spirit and sounds of Bob Marley. Winding up the weekend of celebrations on Sunday 28 July is the collaborative Mojave Crossing that brings together classically-trained flautist Heather Roth and Acid Blues’ jazz guitarist James Kibby.
Friday Nite LIVE! 26 July – Manouche
Taking to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage for Friday Nite LIVE! on 26 July is the incomparable gypsy jazz band Manouche. Manouche gives market goers their 21st century take on gypsy jazz that blends sounds from the likes of tango, waltz, folk, and swing, all culminating in an original, fresh and unique sound that’s bound to get Bay Harbour audiences moving and shaking.
The band comprises Bernard Kotze on guitar; Sarah Blake on the double bass; Renee Stander on violin; Lize Dekker on accordion and piano; and Anneli Kamfer on vocals.
Saturday 27 July – The Rivertones
Popular Cape Town reggae band The Rivertones takes centre stage on the Bay Harbour Market Sound Stage on Saturday 27 July. The Rivertones has gained a reputation of being able to bring back the amazing sounds that legendary singer Bob Marley once mesmerized the world with.
The band comprises of experienced frontman Roland Geoffery Nair who has been performing since he was 12 and has jammed with the likes of “The Wailers” (Bob Marley’s band); Ryan Coetze on bass guitar; and Khaya Hlawule on drums and vocals. Roland Nair formed the Rivertones in 2006, and they have gone to play at major festivals across the country.
Sunday 28 July – Mojave Crossing
Giving market goers an amazing mix of sound on Sunday 28 July is collaborative duo Mojave Crossing, consisting of talented musician Heather Roth and Acid Blues guitarist James Kibby. Heather Roth is a classically trained flautist and saxophonist with an incredible wealth of musical experience, having played all over the world with numerous bands, orchestras and performers. She will be sharing the stage with super talented jazz guitarist James Kibby best known for his performances with popular local band Acid Blues.
