Enjoy iconic films at the throwback ticket price of just R50 at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas. As the festive season approaches, Ster-Kinekor is offering a bargain: two hours of quality entertainment with some of the greatest films from the past, available through the Throwback Cinema promotion in November, December, and January 2025.

November’s Throwback Cinema Line-Up

1 November: Flashdance (1983)
Starring Jennifer Beals as an 18-year-old dancer with big dreams, Flashdance is a dance movie classic full of passion and memorable music.
8 November: Blade Runner (1982)
Directed by Ridley Scott, this sci-fi masterpiece stars Harrison Ford as a blade runner tasked with hunting down rogue replicants.
15 November: Blue Lagoon (1980)
Featuring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins, this romantic adventure follows two children shipwrecked on a tropical island, learning to survive and grow up together.
22 November: Die Hard (1988)
The action classic that introduced Bruce Willis as John McClane, a New York cop who must save hostages, including his wife, from terrorists in Los Angeles.
29 November: La Bamba (1987)
This biopic tells the story of rock ‘n roll singer Ritchie Valens (played by Lou Diamond Phillips), who rose to fame before his tragic death at 17.

December’s Festive Season Titles

6 December: Elf (2003)
The holiday comedy starring Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf, who discovers he’s not really an elf and sets off to find his real father.
13 December: Home Alone (1990)
Macaulay Culkin stars as Kevin McCallister, a young boy who defends his home from burglars after being accidentally left behind during the holidays.
20 December: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
The holiday classic starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch, a green grouch who plans to ruin Christmas for the residents of Whoville.
27 December: Back to the Future Part III (1990)
The third instalment in the iconic franchise, with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd travelling back to the Wild West.

January 2025 Throwback Classics

3 January: Interstellar (2014)
Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic starring Matthew McConaughey, exploring love, time, and space travel in a visually stunning adventure.
10 January: Groundhog Day (1993)
The beloved comedy with Bill Murray as a weatherman who relives the same day over and over.
17 January: The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Will Smith stars in this inspiring story of resilience, based on the true story of Chris Gardner.
24 January: No Country for Old Men (2007)
The gripping thriller from the Coen Brothers, starring Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin.
31 January: The Truman Show (1998)
Jim Carrey delivers a powerful performance in this satirical drama about a man who discovers his entire life is a TV show.
7 February: Good Will Hunting (1997)
Featuring Matt Damon and Robin Williams, this moving story follows a janitor with extraordinary mathematical abilities.
