Enjoy a classic film at a classic ticket price of just R50 at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas

During the month of March, Ster-Kinekor’s Throwback Cinema movie titles offer a broad genre of much-loved films from the past for everyone to enjoy – all at the classic ticket price of R50.

“Bringing back popular movie titles from years gone by is proving to be a popular must-see-again option for our big screen audiences, and the discounted ticket price for these titles makes them that much more accessible. As we continue with this popular promotion, the March line-up includes something for everyone on the big screen, including some great kids’ titles in the lead-up to the Easter school holiday, which the adults might even enjoy more!” says Lynne Wylie, chief marketing officer at Ster-Kinekor Theatres.

Leading the march into March is the second film in the Fifty Shades stable, the 2017 romantic thriller, Fifty Shades Darker (PG16), releasing on 06 March. Forget the past and slip into something a shade darker… When a wounded Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) tries to entice a cautious Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.

Continuing the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy as part of Throwback Cinema, the third film continues its big screen journey from 06 March. The journey reaches its emotional and cinematic climax with The Return of the King, which swept the 2004 Academy Awards with 11 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Peter Jackson, and Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay, a record-tying achievement that cemented the trilogy’s place in film history.

Movies are all about telling great stories. The Throwback Cinema film releasing on 20 March is The Greatest Story Ever Told, which first released in 1965. From his birth in Bethlehem to his death and eventual resurrection, the life of Jesus Christ is given the all-star treatment in this epic retelling. Major aspects of Christ's life are touched upon, including the execution of all the newborn males in Egypt by King Herod, Christ's baptism by John the Baptist, and the betrayal by Judas after the Last Supper that eventually led to Christ's crucifixion and miraculous resurrection. Directed by George Stevens, the film stars Max von Sydow as Christ and Charlton Heston as John the Baptist, with Angela Lansbury, Dorothy McGuire, Joanna Dunham and José Ferrer as Herod.

Longing for the days when he felt like a real ogre, he makes a pact with magic deal-maker Rumpelstiltskin. But when he's duped and sent to a twisted version of Far Far Away – where Rumpelstiltskin is king, ogres are hunted, and he and Fiona have never met, he sets out to restore his world and reclaim his true love.
