Cape Town’s Most Happening Market Adds R&B to the Mix
Submitted by: Ian DickinsonThe month of October brings some of South Africa’s hottest music collaborations to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage. Cape Town’s most happening market comes alive with more food, fashion, crafts and music this summer.
Friday Nite LIVE! 4 October – Lesley Wulf and 3 Grams
Taking to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage for Friday Nite LIVE! is Cape Town’s rising new R&B star, Lesley Wulf. A talented songwriter, Lesley has composed various original songs including ‘Supercute’, ‘Hard to survive’, ‘Pull the Cow out of the Mud’ and ‘Celebrate’ amongst others. He often performs his originals and covers including the audience favourite ‘Moves like Jagger’. Lesley teams up with 3 Grams for this performance - a musical trio which features the nephews of legendary AfroPop singer Brenda Fassie.
Saturday 5 October – David Meulen
The musical creations of David Meulen come alive on the Bay Harbour Sound on Saturday. Meulen combines the timeless melodies of The Beatles with the soul-stirring lyrics of The Lumineers.
David’s passion for music can be traced back to when he discovered The Beatles at the age of six. His musical influences also include Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Ben Howard, Angus & Julia Stone, Muse, The Black Keys, The Kooks and The Arctic Monkeys.
At age 17 David started alternative rock band Dividable Grand with high school friends, and performed with the group for a couple of years. A fair amount of success followed with DG performing alongside some of the biggest acts in South Africa, including Prime Circle, aKing, Taxi Violence and many more. Using the experience gained from this, David branched out to other genres and started focusing on his solo career.
Best described as an Acoustic Rock/ Indie musician, David Meulen has been using his amazing voice and guitar skills to create music that lasts and inspires.
Sunday 6 October – Mojave Crossing
A collaboration of talent and experience that brings together the sounds of classically-trained flautist and saxophonist Heather Roth and Acid Blues Jazz guitarist James Kibby, Mojave Crossing returns to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage on Sunday. Having played with numerous bands, orchestras and performers, Heather’s musical skills as a flautist have mesmerized audiences all over the world.
