Tectra Automation appoints first female millwright
Submitted by: CubicICETectra Automation is proud to announce the appointment of its first female millwright, Patience Ngomane. This is a significant milestone for Tectra Automation and the Bosch Rexroth Africa Group as it consolidates the Group’s efforts towards greater diversity and inclusivity in the industry.
“Ngomane’s appointment is a huge achievement for us and the industry,” says Cobus Snyman, Operations Manager, Tectra Automation. "We are delighted to have Ngomane as our first female millwright. This accomplishment shows that everyone with the right mindset and determination can succeed," he said.
Determined to contribute towards the company’s success
Ngomane obtained a Diploma in Mechatronics, a qualification which prepared her for her current role as a millwright. Her expertise in workshop tools, machines, safety, electrical and programming has helped her excel in her new position. "I am grateful to my colleagues and mentors for seeing me as capable and deserving, just like the male employees in the organisation. I don't expect any special treatment because I am a woman. I want to work hard and contribute to the success of Tectra Automation,” said Ngomane.
Ngomane faced various challenges on her journey to becoming a qualified millwright. Despite the 2020 national shutdown that prevented her from attending training and the bias she faced as a woman in a male-dominated field, she persevered and proved herself to be a capable and dedicated millwright.
When asked about her drive to succeed during her training, Ngomane said, “My family is my biggest motivation. I want to create a better life for myself and my loved ones. I want to prove that anyone can achieve their dreams with hard work and dedication.” She lost her father, the sole breadwinner while doing Grade 8. Her mother and siblings consequently became her biggest motivation to succeed and lift them out of poverty.
Tectra Automation and Bosch Rexroth Africa, says Snyman, are proud to have Ngomane as their first female millwright. They wish her well and hope that her appointment will inspire other women to pursue careers in the industry.
