Hytec Engineering and Power Team Collaborate on Innovative Water Tank Project

Hytec Engineering and Power Team, part of the Bosch Rexroth Africa Group, have collaborated on an innovative water tank project featuring advanced engineering and a specialised synchronised lifting system. Commissioned by a prominent water tank manufacturer, Power Team and Hytec Engineering developed a mobile lifting system that can be transported and used across multiple locations.

Successful Lift of Massive Water Tank

After two months of work, the lifting system was successfully employed to lift a massive 30-metre-diameter water tank, weighing 85 tons and capable of storing up to 5 million litres of water.

Engineering Collaboration

Led by Project Manager Neil Griezel, Power Team designed the lifting system and manufactured the power pack, incorporating components from Hydraulic and Automation Warehouse (HAW), another Bosch Rexroth Africa Group company, and HATZ’s OEM diesel engines. Hytec Engineering supplied the hydraulic cylinders, contributing to the system’s overall functionality.

Features of the Advanced Lifting System

The advanced lifting system includes:

  • A diesel engine-driven power pack
  • A distribution manifold trolley
  • 42 hydraulic cylinders linked with 84 hoses, each 22 metres long

With a total span of 1.8 kilometres of hydraulic hose, the system allows for precise lifting of the water tank.

Synchronisation Challenge

Commenting on the project, Griezel remarked, “In general, synchronised lifting systems can be challenging, and we usually do not synchronise more than five cylinders at a time. Synchronising 42 cylinders was an extremely tough challenge. With the limitation of mobility, we could not control the system electronically, so some unique thinking was required, but we successfully overcame the challenge.”

Upcoming Project

The next project will involve lifting a 40-metre diameter tank, weighing nearly 200 tons. The system is designed to handle a lifting capacity of 250 tons.

Aftersales Service

Hytec Engineering and Power Team will provide aftersales services, including cylinder or power pack repairs. HATZ will manage engine repairs in collaboration with Hytec Engineering and Power Team.
