Kwikspace Modular Buildings (Pty) Ltd was selected by Sunbake to manufacture and supply classrooms for three separate schools. The schools were winners of the Sunbake Back-to-School Competition 2019, which ran from 7 January to 31 March 2019, with winners determined by the number of nominations for their school. The wining schools were awarded a classroom each and R10 000 worth of stationery. They are: Celani Primary in Hazyview and Tiga Primary in Mbombela Rural, both in Mpumalanga, and Nelsonskop Primary in Marapong, Lephalale, Limpopo Province.
Kwikspace manufactured and delivered double-wide prefabricated classrooms, each of which comfortably accommodates up to 45 school children. In addition to ensuring adequate ventilation and lighting, Kwikspace equipped the classrooms with blackboards, pin boards and the necessary plug points to power electrical teaching aids.
Mo Gaibee, Brand Manager, Sunbake, says that Sunbake selected Kwikspace based on its professionalism, quality, price, product safety and turnaround time. “Kwikspace provided us with all the assistance needed. Even when we were in the conceptualisation stage, they provided floor plans, dimensions, delivery criteria – everything we needed to ensure we could deliver on our competition promise. Towards the end of the competition, they held our product in storage at no extra cost, allowed us to complete the Sunbake branding on their premises and delivered and erected the classrooms precisely to our schedule.”
“The look of joy on the principals’, teachers’ and learners’ faces on receipt of the classrooms is difficult to describe,” Gaibee enthuses. “Experiencing this absolute delight from our major winners made all the hard work leading up to, during and after the competition more than worthwhile.”
2019 marked the seventh consecutive year that Sunbake has run the Back-to-School Competition. The competition focus recently changed from individual educational prizes to that of major prizes to benefit the community. In 2017 the major prize was a sports field and in 2018 container libraries were the grand prizes. “The Sunbake brand is about giving back to the community,” Gaibee points out. “We feel this to be a far better contribution to our country’s education system than individual educational prizes where only some benefit.”
In excess of 350 000 competition entries representing more than 960 schools were received, with the number of entries per school determining the winners. Sunbake arranged special ceremonial events at each of the schools, where company representatives conducted a ribbon-cutting and key hand-over ceremony with school representatives and school-goers.
The total value of Sunbake prizes for this competition was R2-million. The value includes the classrooms and R10 000 stationery per winning school, as well numerous branded backpacks, stationery sets and instant airtime won by individuals throughout the competition.
“At Kwikspace we appreciate the opportunity to aid in increasing educational opportunities for our youth,” says Roberto Campos, Chief Operations Officer, Kwikspace. “We have a division dedicated to Government sector work, which has been instrumental in deploying hundreds of classrooms year-on-year for the past few years. This has made us a specialist regarding all necessary requirements when manufacturing our units designed for classroom use.”
