Hytec South Africa is committed to education and social upliftment in South Africa. Every year for almost a decade, the company has partnered with the Mandela Libraries Project to sponsor a fully stocked, containerised library for a disadvantaged school in a community in which the Group operates.
The 2020 beneficiary of the Mandela Libraries Project was Mosioa Primary School, situated in Evaton, south of Johannesburg. The fully stocked container library will serve the 600 learners at the school for the next 15 years.
“Children’s education is critical catalyst for the economic growth of South Africa,” says Mike Harrison, General Manager, Hytec South Africa. The Mandela Library Project is a core part of that vision.
On Friday 28 February 2020, the new library was officially handed over to the Mosioa Primary School. The library launch was attended by Mike Harrison, staff from the Hytec Sasolburg branch, Hlubi Mboya-Arnold (Global Mandela Ambassador), The Mandela School Library team, Department of Education Regional Library Representatives, the School Governing Body, as well as Soul City representatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, Robert Coutts, founder Mandela Bangle project, said in his speech of thanks that “Mr Mandela once told us that it was impossible to help every single child, but that all have the responsibility to give each child the tools that will allow them to help themselves,” he said. “The simplest tool that one can give, one with the greatest value, is literacy.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is always a celebration and the team is always overwhelmed by the excitement, joy and appreciation the schools show. “Hlubi’s energy and love for this project is electric,” says Harrison. The learners had a wonderful time at the ceremony and the dance, led by the Grade 7 Soul Buddyz group, was thoroughly enjoyed by guests, learners, parents and teachers alike.”
This is the eighth library Hytec South Africa has delivered into rural communities across South Africa. All the previous libraries are all producing above average results in the school where they have been deployed. Hytec South Africa is proud to sponsor this initiative.
