HelloMo, a local small business with a big heart, has a vision to empower disabled individuals with marketable skills. The business is owned by Moses Rombayi, a self-taught tailor and Polio survivor who is now disabled due to the disease. Through his honed sewing skills, he produces homemade toys using a variety of ShwesShwe fabric that add a unique touch of Africa. The business based in Orange Farm helps support Moses’ family as well as a Non – profit organization (NPO), Arise, which serves to empower disabled people by teaching them to sew.
HelloMo’s range of products is quintessentially African, the animals include giraffes, springboks, rhinos, and lions, and other animals such as bears, monkeys, hippos and unicorns too. The plush toys come in a variety of sizes and styles and can double as a decoration to liven up any room. HelloMo caters for “furry children” by offering portable dog beds made in ShwesShwe fabric, also available in a variety of sizes.
Each toy is crafted by both machine and hand to ensure its durability and uniqueness, all the materials used to make the toys are locally sourced and are of the best quality. The ShwesShwe material is 100% cotton, other fabrics however can be accommodated for custom orders. The toys are safe for children of all ages. The toys are stuffed with Dacron but also come in a range that is filled with rice to serve as doorstoppers which add charm to any nursery or child’s bedroom.
HelloMo toys are affordable with price tags of between R 50 to R 350 per item. HelloMo offers country – wide delivery at an additional rate of R 99, with discounts available for large orders.
HelloMo do not just offer toys, they offer hope. “It’s important to give back when you have been blessed with something”, says Rombayi. A small purchase will go a long way.
Orders may be placed via the HelloMo Facebook page, or by contacting Moses via email (HelloMo1978@gmail.com) or telephone (0781237690)
