Kwikspace and the City of Joburg - Increasing access to health care

Kwikspace has partnered with the City of Johannesburg to increase access to healthcare with its supply of prefabricated, modular clinics for several healthcare projects to date. This has resulted in realising new centres in Alexander’s Riverpark Clinic, Soweto, Eldorado Park Extension 9, Fine Town’s Mountain View Clinic, Joubert Park and Tembisa’s Thuthukani Clinic. This is in line with the City’s strategy to eradicate substance abuse and other related social ills.
Kwikspace has manufactured and delivered double-wide clinics ranging from 27 m2 to 210 m2 per building including consulting rooms, nursing stations, drug storage rooms, filing rooms, kitchens and ablution facilities to sites chosen by the City for pre-natal clinics and substance abuse rehabilitation centres. As the leader in prefabricated building technology, Kwikspace provides fast, efficient solutions and its plug-and-play model ensures clinic services are immediately available. Park homes for these projects have been manufactured and delivered in under six weeks.
The City of Johannesburg’s model is to provide treatment, psycho-social and medical services within the community environment in safe, comfortable and accessible facilities. Kwikspace’s comprehensive prefabricated building solutions provide excellent insulation and high levels of comfort combined with low maintenance, easy-to-clean panels. “Our units are moisture and insect resistant and fire retardant,” says Phatlane. “They have superior thermal properties and their noise-reduction properties make them ideal for busy areas like clinics.” All the buildings that Kwikspace has provided for these projects are suitable for people with disabilities, and have air conditioners, blinds and lockable storage for medications, as well as burglar proofing and security gates.
Kwikspace has over 50 years’ experience in prefabricated construction. Its building technology is Agrément South Africa and SANAS-certified and delivers a minimum life of 20 years. “We are proud to be part of Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba’s broader vision to provide primary health services throughout the city that are accessible, equitable, effective and efficient,” says Phatlane.
The next substance abuse treatment clinic will be in Davidsonville.
