Three Interns Embark on an Exciting Career Journey at Plastics SA Through Government’s YES Programme
Submitted by: Monique HoltzhausenPlastics SA is proud to welcome three talented interns as part of the Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme, a South African Government initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment. Supported by Safripol, which has generously funded the interns’ salaries, the programme provides invaluable work experience, equipping participants with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the economy and grow personally and professionally.
Empowering South Africa’s Youth
The YES Programme offers young South Africans practical workplace experience across various industries, fostering resilience, expertise, and self-confidence. This year, Plastics SA proudly introduces:
Oratile Kadiege
- Role: Intern in the Technical Department, Plastics SA Head Office, Midrand
- Background: Oratile, 22, hails from Moretele, Hammanskraal, North-West. A graduate of Tshwane University of Technology with a BEng Tech in Materials Engineering (Polymer Technology), she is passionate about sustainable development in the plastics industry.
“This experience has deepened my understanding of polymer science and sustainability. While challenging, it has inspired me to grow both professionally and personally.”
Nkosingiphile “Philie” Gumede
- Role: Intern in the Regional Office, KwaZulu-Natal
- Background: Philie holds a Diploma in Public Administration: Supply Chain Management from Durban University of Technology. She assists with administration and project management.
“I’m motivated by Winston Churchill’s words, ‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.’ This internship offers me the chance to grow my skills and make a positive impact.”
Lwandile Dladla
- Role: Intern in the Administrative Department, Plastics SA Head Office, Midrand
- Background: Lwandile, 21, is completing a Diploma in Event Management from Tshwane University of Technology. Her passions include community service, reading, and meditating.
“Volunteering and giving back to my community enrich my life and reinforce my belief that we can all make a positive difference. I’m excited to grow professionally through this opportunity.”
Driving Innovation and Leadership
Anton Hanekom, Executive Director of Plastics SA, underscored the importance of youth empowerment:
