NGV celebrates taxi owners/drivers of gas powered taxis at NGV Awards ceremony
Submitted by: CubicICE (PTY) LtdDuring October 2017, NGV Gas, a division of CNG Holdings, held its quarterly NGV Taxi Awards at the Langlaagte NGV Gas depot in Johannesburg. Used as a platform to express the company’s appreciation for loyal fillers and top filling taxis, taxi owners and drivers were treated to a day filled with lucky draws, dancers and singers and a hearty lunch, all compliments of NGV.
The main category awards were for the ‘Top Fillers’ per filling station, with results based on the combined fillings over the period 1 June to 30 September 2017. The second category awards were carried out in a lucky draw format and were for participants who filled their taxis with 550 litres of gas or more per consecutive month. These two loyalty awards were supplemented with a Bonus Box draw, where all attendees stood a chance to win varied prizes like airtime vouchers, gas vouchers, clothes and Bluetooth headsets, for example. Supporting sponsorship was provided by industry related companies ContiTech Africa and SupaQuick.
The top filling taxi owners from each of the service stations received a SupaQuick Voucher for Firestone tyres and front and rear brakes. Both the owners and drivers received prizes.
The winners were:
- Pretoria: Mr RB Thobejane (owner) and Mr Tshepo (driver) for filling up with 6 087.23 litres
- Dobsonville: Mr D Tshabalala (owner) and Mr Sergio (driver) for filling up with 5 831.15 litres
- Langlaagte: Mr SJ Nalungo (owner and driver) filled up with 5 606.48 litres
- Vanderbijlpark: Mr AD Nhlapo (owner and driver) filled up with 4 933.96 litres
The lucky draw competition was also conducted per filling station, ensuring an equal chance for all competition participants who had filled up with the minimum requirement of 550 litres per month.
There were additional Bonus Box draws with participants receiving a hamper, either from NGV Gas or ContiTech Africa.
“The use of natural gas in our vehicles is the future in South Africa, and these taxi owners and drivers are, essentially, pioneering the way for broader automotive use over the long-term,” says Stephen Rothman, CEO, CNG Holdings.
Compressed Natural Gas is more cost effective, safer and cleaner than petrol, paraffin, diesel and LPG fuels. Not earmarked for the automotive industry only, CNG is the ideal fuel for boilers, ovens, smelters, dryers, furnaces and kilns. It contributes to substantially lower fuel costs and, with less emissions, increases onsite safety and health.
