South Africa’s incredible wildlife is central to its heritage, which is why Crocworld Conservation Centre on the KZN South Coast is the perfect spot to celebrate Heritage Day on Wednesday, 24 September! Visitors are encouraged to come in traditional attire that reflects their heritage, with great specials and live music by saxophonist Jerry Kunene from 12pm to 2pm.
“It’s quite fitting that Heritage Day falls within Tourism Month because South Africa’s natural heritage is such an important part of its tourism offerings,” commented Susan Badat Crocworld Centre Manager. “There’s no better place to celebrate South Africa’s heritage than among our wildlife in the beautiful coastal forest setting of Crocworld. Alongside the live music and meal specials, visitors can stop by our Barnyard section to visit our springtime baby goats and give some welcoming hugs to our baby rabbits!”
Heritage Day Celebrations
Badat added that all visitors who dress up in traditional gear for Heritage Day will get a free slushi from the on-site Fish Eagle Café and a 10% discount on all restaurant meals of R100 or more. There will also be great South African meals on offer to really bring Heritage Day to life.
From 12pm to 2pm, renowned local saxophonist Jerry Kunene will be entertaining the crowds with his signature sound. Boasting global experience, Jerry worked with Mbongeni Ngema on the Township Fever Musical in New York, as well as alongside the African Jazz Pioneers, the late Sipho Gumede, Brian Thusi, The Key Notes, Darius Burbeck, Jonathan Ngema, Theo Bophela, Dudley Dlamini, James Mbambo, and Clarence Khumalo.
Despite his background allowing for no formal musical education, Jerry’s talent was unstoppable. Through a series of trial and error, he experimented with sounds whenever he found a moment to practice. Completely self-taught, Jerry has enjoyed a hugely successful career, visiting eight countries and collaborating with some of the biggest names in music.
On Heritage Day and building up to the school holidays, visitors can look forward to so much entertainment at Scottburgh’s Crocworld:
- Daily animal interactions and fascinating feeding demonstrations.
- Meeting iconic crocodile residents like Henry, the world’s oldest known Nile crocodile in captivity at 124 years old, as well as his long-time friend, Colgate.
- Strolling through lush coastal forest teeming with birdlife, with more than 200 local species to spot.
- Taking in panoramic ocean views from the award-winning Fish Eagle Café, which offers great refreshments and meals for the whole family.
