Inside the collaboration that turns every trip to Sun City into a win for visitors and the local community

Mankwe GAMETRACKERS, based at the iconic Sun City Resort next to the malaria free Big Five Pilanesberg National Park, is the largest outdoor adventure activity business in the North West province of South Africa.
Activities offered include game drives, bush walks and hot air balloon safaris over the Pilanesberg National Park, as well as quad biking, archery, chimp and zee rope adventure courses. Additionally, a service level agreement with Greater Pilanesberg Tour Operators Association (GPTOA) has it providing shuttles for guests to and from the iconic holiday resort. Guests can opt for a private transfer, which is also done in collaboration with GPTOA.
“We are a reputable business with more than 40 years combined industry experience,” said Christopher Thai, CEO of Mankwe GAMETRACKERS. “Our rates are designed to be economical for the average traveller.”
As members of the GPTOA, along with about 35 other tour operators, Mankwe GAMETRACKERS takes the bookings from Sun City and then GPTOA does the fulfilment between Lanseria and OR Tambo International airports and the resort. This minimises the potential for conflict between the operators who are now also encouraged to organise themselves to get similar contracts from other properties.
Patrick Nkwe, chairman of GPTOA, said the organisation was grateful to all stakeholders for making the agreement possible. “This confidence gives us hope for what can be achieved when local small businesses and the community at large are given a chance to participate in the local economy,” he said.
“This relationship continues to be refined as we learn lessons along the way – there has been growth within our members in relation to professional execution of these services as we have a clear service level agreement (SLA) to observe. We hope other players in the market will see this as a good example of how established operators in the industry can play part in the development of small businesses.”
Mankwe GAMETRACKERS driver Phenyo Sephoti said: “I love to explore and educate people about our beautiful province, especially our beautiful Sun City Resort and the Pilanesberg National Park. This industry leads to job creation and can help eradicate poverty. The beautiful part about Sun City is that everything is in one place.”
His fellow driver, Mosiane Modisaotsile, said: “My job brings food on the table firstly; secondly, I enjoy linking with the world and getting more understanding of trends and keeping up with what is happening in the world. There’s so much to learn from guests during our interaction. It makes it easier to tailor their requirements.”
Sun City general manager Brett Hoppé said the agreement proved that through mutually beneficial partnerships, much could be achieved for small businesses. “Sun International is passionate about enabling South Africa’s future economic growth. We take our role in enterprise and supplier development seriously as we support small and medium-sized businesses.”
Mankwe GAMETRACKERS looks forward to building strong, lasting partnerships with local tour operators to enhance guest experiences and grow sustainable tourism together said Maluleke.
