Barney Barnato takes place at Kimberley Golf Club end October 2025
The Barney Barnato Golf Tournament is South Africa's largest amateur golf championship, hosted annually in October at the Kimberley Golf Club in the Northern Cape.
It features three days of golf with a "Mini Barney" day, includes food, drinks, entertainment, official merchandise, and offers significant cash prizes for participants.
The event is known for its festive atmosphere, blending competition with social events and entertainment, and is a significant annual fixture for golfers in the region.
Being a neighbour to the venue, Flamingo Casino is a proud sponsor of this tournament. Recreating the energy and excitement of the historic diamond rush, the Flamingo taps into the legend of Barny Barnato.
Born in 1851, Barnato rose from the streets of London to become a diamond and gold magnate in South Africa. A self-made legend, he rivalled Cecil Rhodes and helped shape the mining legacy of Kimberley.
The city, once the heart of the diamond rush, now celebrates Barnato’s bold spirit through one of the region’s most iconic events, a tournament, which blends history and sport.
The Kimberley Golf Club course opened in 1890, an 18-hole, par-72 course. The terrain is semi-desert, offering a unique, challenging layout for golfers, both amateurs and professionals.
On Thursday, 30 October 2025, day one players will compete within several divisions. The excitement will be enhanced with on-course prizes, wet holes, free drinks when coming off the course and of course as is tradition, a night filled with quality entertainment. Expect more of the same on Friday, 31 October 2025, with the addition of a spit braai. On the final day, Saturday, 1 November, prize giving and the crowning of the 2025 Barney Barnato Champion Golfer of the Year will take place.
Spectators are invited to support the golfers, enjoy drinks and the entertainment and spit braai. With Flamingo Casino right next door, there are several entertainment outlets and fun activities available in and around the casino. For those looking for a fun night out, start with a delicious meal at Harvest Grill & Wine then head to Bar 129 to watch your favourite DJs and comedians live on stage.
“The golf course adds considerable heritage value to the Flamingo Casino property. As one of the oldest in the country, it contributes to Kimberley’s identity as a historic place,” says Gaming Manger Johann de Lange.
"Guests at Flamingo can enjoy world-class golfing without travelling far, making the casino complex more attractive to visitors who appreciate leisure and outdoor sport.”
Flamingo also uses the facility for community and promotional events like charity golf days, and competitions which help the casino to position itself as more than just gaming but also as a social/community hub.
