Comprehensive and inexpensive security for your home

Published: 06 July 2017

JOHANNESBURG, 4TH JULY 2017

Panasonic’s Home Network System provides a broad range of security measures for your home, and that’s just one aspect of what it offers.

Home security is a priority for the majority, in order to protect the memories, mementoes and priceless items in the home. At the same time, cost is always a concern, with many people unable to afford private home security services. It is for these reasons that there is a growing trend towards home security systems, which can be installed by the user and are much easier on the pocket.

Panasonic’s Home Network System, for example, allows you to create a powerful wireless network of cameras, sensors and controllers, both in and outside the home. These can be controlled with a smartphone, via a single app, and offer many additional benefits over standard security systems. For example, the system doubles as a complete and comprehensive baby monitoring device, enabling parents to check in on the child using live video footage, streamed directly to their mobile device.

It is able to detect motion, sound and temperature and can immediately notify you of any unusual conditions. In addition, the camera offers a built-in mic and speaker, enabling parents to talk to the baby, or play up to five different lullabies to help it fall asleep. In a similar fashion, external cameras will allow users to monitor their pets at any time and from anywhere – perfect for those occasions where you have to go away for a day or two. The same outdoor cameras are also perfect for assisting you to check who it is that is knocking on your front door.

These cameras not only deliver real-time streaming, but also offer a quad view, enabling the user to view up to four cameras simultaneously, as well as providing motion detection for specific areas of the garden where recording and notification are considered critical. Moreover, because the solution is run by an app on your smart phone, you can control lighting and appliances remotely too, turning devices in a room on and off at anytime and anywhere. This means you can make it appear as though someone is in the house, even when you are away, to frighten off potential burglars.

The beauty of Panasonic’s Home Network System is that you can decide what solutions you want and add these to the network as and when they are required. It includes external and internal cameras, smart plugs for controlling your lights and door, window and motion sensors that will alert you if anyone suspicious enters your property. Not only is this an extremely cost-effective solution, it is also simple and easy to install. Panasonic’s Home Networking System can be set-up in just three easy steps, without any complicated installation. Simply plug in the hub, download the Home Networking System app – which is available on both iOS and Android - and ensure your mobile device is connected to your WiFi network.

The system is seamlessly integrated with WiFi and has a range of over 300 metres. If you are seeking the peace of mind to be found in an inexpensive, yet effective security system, you need look no further than the Panasonic Home Networking System. With its ability to secure your property, enable you to see visitors at your front door and keep an eye on your baby in the other room, it’s a security guard, butler and babysitter, all rolled into one.

Integr8, Extreme and Duxbury launch ‘networking-on-demand’ service in South Africa

Published: 09 May 2016

In a ground-breaking move, three leading local IT companies have banded together to launch South Africa’s first pay-per-use, fully-managed, corporate networking solution which will be targeted at developing markets throughout Africa.

Dubbed EasyLAN, the solution has been developed under the auspices of a joint venture agreement between the local arm of Extreme Networks, a leading worldwide software and services-led networking solutions company, Integr8, a local ICT management specialist, and Duxbury Networking, a leading value-added distributor with a continent-wide footprint.   EasyLAN is a standardised managed service allowing customers to take advantage of the latest networking technologies and modern hardware and software offerings without having to invest in a costly in-house infrastructure.

EasyLAN will enable businesses to manage their network services via an online portal in real time,” explains Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking. “There is no upfront capital investment needed as customers pay only on a per-port-used basis. Moreover, EasyLAN ensures that the latest technological developments from Extreme Networks are incorporated as part of the deal.”

Robb says the EasyLAN solution represents a definitive evolution of cloud-based technologies and is the spearhead of the joint venture’s new cloud networking initiative within the African business arena.

“In the same way as the cloud boosted the management of data centres, so the concept of networking-on-demand, as supported by EasyLAN, will be a boost for corporate networks," he notes.

Martin May, regional director (Africa) for Extreme Networks, confirms that EasyLAN will be able to transform an organisation’s network infrastructure through the incorporation of next-generation technology.

“A key advantage of EasyLAN will be a significantly simplified corporate IT landscape, allowing organisations to fully optimise their investments in networking resources while benefitting from the technical expertise of three of SA’s most prolific networking technology exponents.”

He says EasyLAN provides the ultimate in flexibility and simplicity, allowing users to migrate their IT budget spending from capital to operational expenditure by removing the bulk of their hardware.

“EasyLAN will assist businesses to keep abreast of the massive increases in data traffic on their networks, a growing percentage of which is video traffic which is putting mounting pressure on legacy networks.

“Today, network managers should be tasked with quickly responding to changing business demands by making the corporate network more responsive to user demands, more scalable and more automated.”

In this light, May says businesses also need improved control over their networks in order to optimise costs and remain competitive in the fast-paced business environment.   According to Bennie Strydom, Chief Sales Officer at Integr8, EasyLAN allows users to moderate their network usage, scaling up or down depending on the ‘ebb and flow’ of business needs, as they pay only for the ports they use on a month-to-month basis.

“The solution allows users to free up the time, money and costly resources usually associated with running, maintaining and supporting their networking infrastructures, putting them to better use to develop new, innovative business strategies and solutions,” he adds.

Strydom says the pay-per-port offering allows users to customise and configure their LAN ports to accommodate their organisations’ specific work force. “Because users only pay for what they use, it's a risk-free model.” “The EasyLAN solution is supported by comprehensive hardware maintenance and device management services which allow for 24x7 monitoring of users’ networks with an immediate response from a technical support team should a problem arise,” Strydom continues.

“Proactive monitoring means the customer will receive best-in-class support and maintenance from a team of highly trained and proficient technicians. Importantly, EasyLAN will give users’ technical teams the space and budget to focus on their own core strengths which include the growth of the business going forward,” he concludes.   [ENDS]

Global Business Leader, Gareth Penny to Share Business Insights with Sa’S Teens

Published: 12 February 2015

South Africa and the African continent as a whole is home to some of the world’s most valuable natural resources. From gold, to diamonds, chromium, cobalt, and hydroelectric power potential, manganese and millions of acres of untilled farmland Africa is in reality the world’s richest continent.

Despite the potential of the continent’s natural resources and the incredibly skilled and talented people calling this continent home, leaders across the continent have failed to stimulate and retain the most powerful resource – the people.

It is with this view in mind that the SA Teen Entrepreneur Foundation continue to promote the course of creating a culture of entrepreneurship amongst teens and leaders that influence the lives of the country’s youth.

Since its inception, the Teen Entrepreneur Foundation has created a number of workshops, seminars and competitions in partnership with schools, to nurture and encourage entrepreneurial thinking.

“We know that innovative thinking and business acumen can be developed through connection and learning from leaders that have gone before us and paved a way in business,” says Lydia Zingoni Founder and Director of Teen Entrepreneur Foundation.

“For this reason, we have created the Awaken the Giant in You breakfast series, which aims to create a platform for leaders and mentors in business to practically share their journeys with South African youth to not only inspire them, but teach them that hard work, commitment and determination will reap a future reward.” She continued.

The success of the breakfast series to date is the calibre of speakers that the foundation has managed to attract, to share their skills and expertise. The next speaker in the series is global business icon Gareth Penny.

Gareth Penny is non-Executive Chairman of MMC Norilsk Nickel, the world’s biggest producer of nickel and palladium and a leading producer of platinum and copper.  He has worked in various forms of mining over the past three decades and holds positions on several boards across Europe, Africa and the United States.

His passion to inspire and stimulate the interest of young people in business is evident in his role as regular visiting lecturer at the London Business School’s MBA and Sloane programmes.

Born in Cape Town, Gareth is a prime example of the richness of the people resources that this country has to offer the world. His experience of building a career in the mining industry will also teach one valuable insights about the resource rich continent we live in and how to find opportunity in some unlikely places.

“I have always regarded myself as an entrepreneur from a very early age.  At school I spent time organising fetes and other business ventures.  My National Service was done at the Small Business Corporation, focusing on start-ups, and my first job at Anglo American was to launch an Anglo American/De Beers small business initiative, which today has assisted or built 25,000 jobs.  My next role in De Beers was to start from scratch a diamond cutting factory in a small village in Botswana called Serowe,” says Gareth Penny.

“I have always tried to be an ‘intrapreneur’ (an entrepreneur inside a big corporation),” he continued.

Gareth will speak on the topic of “Preparing for Business Leadership” and will share his life and business lessons. The event is open to youth, their parents, teachers, community leaders, government departments, the broader business community and particularly those who are tasked with teen and youth development.

The event is taking place on Saturday 7 March 2015 at 08h30 at the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands. Tickets cost R150 for adults and R75 for students. Bookings for the breakfast can be made on-line at www.teenentrepreneur.co.za or by contacting Nadia Snyders on 021 447 6183 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
