Celebrity Drive SA lights up communities at Sun City

It’s a time for meaningful giving of gifts, festive activities - Celebrity Drive, together with its partner brands, hosted a special Christmas Lighting event on Wednesday, 3 December 2025 at Sun City. This annual affair, famous for carols and fireworks, marks the official start of the festive season in the North West province and included the turning on of a symbolic light of kindness to shine a spotlight on community support. The initiative was inspired earlier this year during a Celebrity Drive outreach visit, when the team spent time with children at a local North West orphanage in Moses Kotane, Bojanala District.
“That moment highlighted how much a return visit would mean, and the festive season felt like the perfect time to offer not just goodwill, but real support for homes caring for vulnerable groups,” said Brett Hoppé, General Manager of Sun City Resort.
This year’s programme supported Dimakatso Safehouse in Moruleng, the HIV and AIDS Traditional Home Based Care Centre in Chaneng, Otshepeng Old Age Home in Tlhatlhaganyane, and Bateng Elderly Care Centre in Monakato. All four centres are supported by the Sun City SED Department. The visits included the handover of food parcels, festive activities, and quality time spent with residents.
Herbelin led as the main sponsor, offering watches at a discounted rate, with Celebrity Drive receiving 25% of the net price from each sale. Proceeds will continue to be collected throughout the festive season and will be used in January to provide school shoes, stationery, and back-to-school items for the children.
Additional support came from International Junior Miss South Africa, donating 700 sanitary towels, as well as Versus Paints, Uniq Brows, McDonald’s, Gert Johan Coetzee, Bathu, and other valued partners. McDonald’s and the Mmakola Foundation catered Happy Meals to the children at Dimakatso Safehouse, while Gert Johan Coetzee contributed toys and Bathu donated 50 pairs of its Mersh Kiddies Edition shoes. Further contributions included 150 loaves of bread from M Sport Marketing, snacks from NikNaks, face painting by Versus Paints, and stationery packs for the new school year. Every partner added something meaningful, creating a collective impact that will be felt long after the event.
The total value of contributions exceeded R110 000, showcasing the power of community and the difference that can be made when people come together.
Brett Hoppé said, “Sun City has always been proud to kick off the festive season for the North West province, and each year we look for ways to give back to the communities around us. This year’s initiative is even bigger, thanks to the incredible support of Celebrity Drive and our partner brands. Together, we brought food, gifts, and festive cheer to children, the elderly, and vulnerable groups in our SED network. Moments like these, highlighted by the turning on of the symbolic light of kindness, remind us of the joy the season can bring and the difference we can make when we come together.”
This collective effort reflects a shared belief that meaningful community support is possible when people and brands act together. The Christmas Lighting event celebrates generosity, unity, and the spirit of the season, reminding us that small acts of kindness can create a lasting impact.
Celebrity Drive extends heartfelt appreciation to Sun City for its partnership, leadership, and unwavering support. This initiative would not be possible without their commitment to the communities within their SED network.
