Kwikspace helps rail and port company expand depot infrastructure in three provinces

Kwikspace, the mobile and site erected building specialists, was awarded the contract to supply temporary modular buildings for seven depots located across three provinces – Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng. The contract, awarded by a South African rail, port and pipeline company, entailed the hiring of 46 relocatable units for five months to assist with temporarily expansion to its existing infrastructure. This is needed to cater for added capacity required for the company’s administrative personnel, such as health and safety officers and site managers.
All units are classified as single-wide, meaning that they are stand-alone 3 m-wide units which have been tailored to meet the client’s various onsite requirements. These include office units, kitchen units, locker rooms and ablution facilities, each kitted out to suit specified requirements. For example, some of the ablution facilities contain toilets only, while others include toilets and shower facilities. Kitchens, too, are equipped with a sink, worktop, under-counter cupboards and basic amenities, while the locker rooms incorporate burglar bars for safe storage purposes.
“The opportunity to spread our supply across three different provinces for a single project explored our capacity to be far reaching,” says Claude Naidoo, Rental Account Manager, Kwikspace. “We refurbished, delivered, placed and handed over all units to all sites in four weeks, once again proving our capacity to deliver on time, even on a multi-leg project spanning several provinces.”
Blinds and air conditioners were fitted to the units as optional extras, and the units were delivered only subsequent to standard refurbishment inside and out, the norm when hiring rental units from Kwikspace. Included with the refurbishment are all required electrics and electrical fittings with the associated Certificate of Compliance, as well as all fixtures necessary to connect designated units to water and sewage amenities.
Acquiring the project was no mean feat as it was a regional tender that included 22 different specifications, each with a price per specification and a per kilometre delivery rate. “Our renowned quality material and workmanship were contributing factors in us acquiring this tender.”
The number of units, when combined with the five-month rental duration, ranks this rental project among the largest that Kwikspace has done with a client in this industry.
