The bird's out of the box - Signature 'Suikerbekkie' brings life to new Blanc de Nuy 3-litre

Nuy Wine Cellar has unveiled its latest white wine, the Nuy Inspiration Blanc de Nuy, not in a bottle, but in an elegant 3-litre bag-in-box, the first in the Inspiration range to feature the signature ‘suikerbekkie’ (sunbird).
Paying tribute to the hundreds of sunbirds that frequent Nuy’s gardens, this striking new design was first introduced late last year on the label of Nuy’s first-ever Perlé wine, the 2024 Rosé Moscato Perlé, and was warmly received.
Marketing Manager AC Goodger says the ongoing evolution of South Africa’s box wine market inspired the team to give Nuy’s iconic 3-litre offering a fresh new look. “Although the original was well-known and elegant, we felt it was time for an upgrade, inside and out,” says Goodger.
The challenge was taken up in-house by the team behind one of Route 60’s favourite pitstop wine brands. Fittingly so, as the tiny, nectar-loving sunbirds have long been part of Nuy’s natural heritage.
“I can proudly say that the Inspiration Blanc de Nuy is the result of true collaboration by the entire management and sales team,” says Goodger. “After weeks of ideas, changes and laughs, I’m thrilled with the final result. Both the design and the wine have already drawn plenty of compliments.”
TICKING ALL THE BOXES IN YOUR GLASS
For the Blanc de Nuy 3-litre, the winemaker had the luxury of selecting only the finest white wines from Nuy’s cellar. In fact, just three percent of the cellar’s annual production of 17 000 tons is bottled under the Nuy Winery label – a testament to its selectiveness.
Cellar Master Christo Basson describes Blanc de Nuy as pale green in colour, with an inviting nose and appealing fruit-forward aromas.
“You’ll find notes of green apple, guava and passion fruit, with subtle hints of lime and litchi,” says Basson. “The palate is light to medium-bodied, with fresh, crisp, well-balanced acidity and a lingering fruity finish.”
As an easy-drinking white, Blanc de Nuy is suited to almost any occasion. Serve chilled on its own or enjoy as a versatile partner to light lunches and salads. It pairs especially well with fish and poultry – try it with a classic roast chicken.
