Community effort secures Pick n Pay Collectabok win for Cape Town mom

For the Bosman family of Bellville, collecting the Pick n Pay Collectabok cards was not only a family affair, but a community effort to ensure they had the entire pack required to stand a chance of winning a rugby experience.
When Ilze Bosman’s seven-year-old son Josia opened a golden Pick n Pay Collectabok rugby card featuring Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus, he was beside himself with excitement at having secured the series’ most sought-after card.
Finding the Golden Rassie Erasmus Card meant Ilze’s entry stood the chance of winning the trio of prizes which she shared with her family. Husband Jaco attended the Cape Town Rugby Sevens last weekend along with Josia to cheer the Springbok Sevens team to victory. The pint-sized fan also received a signed Springbok jersey, and will enjoy a behind-the-scenes change room tour at a 2026 Springbok game to meet some of the players he adores. “He wanted to know why it didn’t happen last weekend, as at first he did not understand the difference between the Rugby Sevens players and the Springboks,” Jaco said.
Like thousands of South Africans who enjoyed Pick n Pay’s Collectabok promotion, the Bosman family were determined to find every card. “We looked at many stores but the albums were sold out, so we uploaded our collection on the Pick n Pay digital album instead. We swapped cards at school, friends without grandkids contributed, and neighbours dropped off extra cards after we asked on our street WhatsApp group. Our kids are the smallest in the neighbourhood so everyone got involved to help them complete their set.”
Grade 1 learner Josia, a passionate rugby fan, opened every pack with the help of his sister Izelle, age 4. “He knows most of the players’ names but his favourites are Pieter-Steph du Toit and Eben Etzebeth,” Ilze said.
The excitement at home has been so intense that Ilze phoned Josia’s teacher to warn her that he might not be able to sit still in class, as he wanted to share his news with his classmates. “Josia couldn't stop talking when he and Jaco got home after Rugby 7’s. He had the time of his life. Even though I won the prizes, I gave them to Josia as his Christmas presents - better gifts he could not have asked for. A huge thank you to Pick n Pay for giving us an early Christmas.”
